Discover the Opportunities with Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
-
Community of Students Meet the vibrant student-led organizations in the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology program! From the "Hotter than Hell" hot pepper picnic with the Tri-Beta Biology Honors Society to the long-standing, student-initiated Friday Fika in a Nobel Hall lounge, there are plenty of ways to engage, grow, and thrive in your academic career with students and faculty.
-
Study Away Collaborate with multicultural, international research teams worldwide with numerous study-away opportunities. Your faculty will help guide you on how to stay away and stay on track with courses for the major. Start your study-away journey by connecting with faculty and the Center for International and Cultural Education.
-
Research Unlike most colleges and universities, research opportunities at Gustavus will begin your first year on the Hill. You can publish work as part of faculty projects, independent research, and student-driven inquiry. Explore your possibilities, from the First-Year Research Experience (FYRE) to summer fellowships.
-
Healthcare Shadowing Pre-health students at Gustavus can observe medical professionals in the nation's top healthcare clinics. Learn more about this program with Career Development and how to apply.

Teaching/Lab Assistants and Tutors Upperclass students in the program have a leadership opportunity by serving as teaching assistants, lab assistants, and tutors. This is a chance for newer students in the program to receive mentorship with more experienced students and for more experienced students to work closely with a faculty member as they assist other students.
-
Facilities for Learning The Biochemistry and Molecular Biology teaching and research labs are state-of-the-art, collaborative environments. The Instrument Room in Nobel Hall houses impressive research tools for nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, fast protein liquid chromatography, mass spectrometry, laser scanning confocal microscopy and much more. Plus, the labs have a beautiful view overlooking the Minnesota River Valley.
