A Sense of Harmony
Want to sing, play music, or teach it? There’s a place for you in the Department of Music. Join one of four touring ensembles, sing in a nationally televised Christmas service, perform in a handbell ensemble—the musical options are practically endless.
The Art of Possibility
The Department of Art and Art History offers a huge range of creative options for everyone, including studio art classes, research opportunities, connections to internships, and training for future art educators. Study abroad programs could take you to Denmark, Italy, and other worldwide art capitals.
Visual Galleries - Showcasing Creation
From traveling international exhibits to pop-up shows featuring the work of Gustavus undergrads, you can find it all in the College’s two fine art galleries. Experimental, classic, or genre-defying—the Hillstrom Museum of Art and the Schaefer Fine Arts Gallery have it covered.
Hillstrom Museum of Art
Located in the Jackson Campus Center, the Hillstrom Museum of Art is a treasure trove of American art. Through hands-on research, curation, and cross-curricular connection, Gusties drive much of the museum’s programming.
Schaefer Art Gallery
Find the Schaefer Art Gallery on the northeast side of the Schaefer Fine Arts-Art building. Open daily it features a diverse body of work from both students and professional artists. Exhibits are accompanied by artist gallery talks and discussion-based workshops that engage both Gusties and the surrounding community.
Play Your Part
On the boards or behind the scenes, you have a role to play in the Department of Theatre and Dance. From the costume shop to center stage, control booth to scenic shop, you’ll build community as you learn the art of creative collaboration through hands-on experience and mentorship.
Christmas in Christ Chapel
Want to create an unforgettable holiday? Join other Gusties for this beloved annual celebration, going strong since 1973. You might sing, dance, share visual art, offer spoken word—or simply melt into an audience of more than 4,000 people. Another 10,000 livestream Christmas in Christ Chapel, making this event our most highly anticipated Fine Arts production.
