Competitive Travel Grants

The Kendall Center for Engaged Learning will offer limited competitive travel grants of up to $1000 to all faculty who are tenured, tenure-track, and those who have continuing instructor status. The most important factors in the committee's consideration will be the importance of the meeting, conference, or workshop within your discipline; a detailed but accessible description of the applicant’s participation; and the applicant’s assessment of the potential significance of the meeting, conference, or workshop to their development as a scholar, artist, and/or teacher. This money will be on top of the normal travel grant allocation available to individual faculty, and will cover any meeting, conference, or workshop that occurs in the period of June 1, 2022 - May 31, 2023. The applications are due March 23 and decisions will be communicated to faculty by April 13. Detailed information, along with the application, can be found on our website.

Teachers Talking - DEI As the Foundations of your Pedagogy #2

Please join us on Friday, March 11 for Teachers Talking. Topic: DEI As the Foundations of your Pedagogy #2. In the first of these DEI sessions we shared current information about Gustavus students and the access/adaptation requests you're most likely to get. Then we encouraged participants to think about how these common requests could be implemented into their courses, and to try at least one of their ideas. This follow-up session is the time to share how things went, troubleshoot any challenges, and celebrate victories in your pedagogical lives. More a workshop and discussion (and less a lecture), this TT invites participants to share their successes and ask additional questions as they continue making access and inclusion the basis of their pedagogy. Note: you can easily attend this session even if you missed the first one; all are welcomed! Program is at 11:30 am and 12:30pm. Free lunch (Marketplace coupons), then meet in the St Peter Room. For a full list of sessions please visit the Kendall Center webpage under Teachers Talking

Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Grants (SoTL)

The Kendall Center's Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) grants support faculty in projects examining teaching and learning practices in their discipline(s) in a systematic way by using systematic research methods and by making the results known to the campus community. This initiative provides support for eligible faculty to develop, implement and assess a pedagogical approach intended to address a specific challenge to student learning encountered in a semester-long course offered on a regular basis. The grant application and information is on the John S. Kendall Center for Engaged Learning website, under Grants. Deadline to apply is April 1, 2022.

Curriculum Development and Revitalization Grants

The John S. Kendall Center for Engaged Learning is offering support for faculty designing a new semester-long course, or substantially re-designing an existing semester-long course, to reflect a global, multicultural, or interdisciplinary curriculum. Funds for these grants are limited; thus, grants are competitive. Priority will be given to applications submitted by tenured, tenure-track, and continuing instructor faculty because of the long-term benefit their initiatives afford the Gustavus curriculum.
