Community Engaged LearningKendall Center

The Carnegie Foundation defines community engagement as "the collaboration between institutions of higher education and their larger communities (local, regional/state, national, global) for the mutually beneficial exchange of knowledge and resources in a context of partnership and reciprocity." Community-engaged learning (CEL) at Gustavus can include projects connected to a specific course as well as research or creative work conducted outside the structure of the classroom.

Gustavus has a strong tradition of CEL across many disciplines, with projects ranging from single assignments embedded in a course to research collaborations spanning many years. The Kendall Center seeks to support both veteran practitioners and faculty interested in exploring opportunities to integrate CEL into their curricular or scholarly agendas.
