The Kendall Center has moved into the new space in Anderson, Room 303. Please join us for an Open House to celebrate on Thursday, February 9 from 9:30 am to 12.  Come when you can.  Refreshments will be served. 

Faculty Writing Retreats at GAC and ASI

February Faculty Writing Retreats will be held on Saturday, February 18 at ASI and on Sunday, February 19 at Gustavus (Board Room). Faculty can sign up for a full day 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. devoted to writing. We’ll provide breakfast and lunch. Please visit the Kendall Center website for upcoming dates and info. Please reserve a space with Cathy Blaukat (cblauka@gustavus.edu) for one or all of the writing retreats.

New Faculty Orientation Session

Join us on Thursday, February 9 for a New Faculty Orientation Session. Topic: Checking In and Setting Intentions. Share reflections on experiences in fall and over January. What goals were met? What were more difficult than anticipated and what are your strategies for the spring semester?. Free lunch at the Three Crowns Buffet, then meet in the St Peter Room, 12:30 to 1:20 p.m

The Chili Cook-Off and Dessert Pie-Off and Beer Tasting Event!

All faculty, please plan to attend the most tasty event of the year. What to do? Please make a dessert pie or cook up a pot of your favorite chili, enough to share. No time to cook? Come anyway, there always is plenty for all.The Cook-off will be held Friday, February 10 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Interpretive Center. As usual, Schell's Brewery has graciously agreed to provide the beer; non-alcoholic beverages also will be available.

Faculty Shop Talk

Patricia Reeder (Assistant Professor, Psychological Science) will present at Faculty Shop Talk on Friday, February 17. Her talk entitled, "Learning in an uncertain world: How children and adults exploit distributional information during implicit learning " will be presented at 4:30 p.m. in the Interpretive Center. Resources for Teaching about Fake News

The Gustavus Library has put together an online guide about fighting fake news. The guide contains tips for helping students evaluate information sources, lesson plans, examples of fake news in the world, and reasons why this kind of work is essential for lifelong learning. We invite you to use the resources on the guide in your work with students. Curriculum Development and Revitalization Grants

The John S. Kendall Center for Engaged Learning is offering support for faculty designing a new semester-long course, or substantially re-designing an existing semester-long course, to reflect a global, multicultural, or interdisciplinary curriculum. Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Grants

The Kendall Center's Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) grants support faculty in projects examining teaching and learning practices in their discipline(s) in a systematic way by using systematic research methods and by making the results known to the campus community. Please see grant guidelines and timeline on the John S. Kendall Center for Engaged Learning website under Grants. Deadline to apply is March 31, 2017.

RSC and Presidential Grant Deadlines

The Research, Scholarship, and Creativity Grant deadline is Monday, Feb. 13; the Presidential Faculty-Student Collaboration Grant deadline is Monday, Feb. 20.
