Faculty Writing Retreats at GAC and ASI

April Faculty Writing Retreats will be held on Saturday, April 9 at ASI and on Sunday, April 10 at Gustavus (Board Room). Faculty can sign up for a full day 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. devoted to writing. We’ll provide breakfast and lunch. Please visit the Kendall Center website for upcoming dates and info. Please reserve a space with Cathy Blaukat (cblauka@gustavus.edu) for one or all of the writing retreats.

Teachers Talking

Join us for Teachers Talking on Wednesday, April 7 for a discussion on Internationalizing Teaching and Learning. Rachel Sherman Johnson, Interim Enrollment and Logistics Coordinator for CICE, and a Gustie graduate, will share ideas about how to infuse international and intercultural concepts into teaching and learning. Co-sponsored by GEC (Global Engagement Committee). Program at 11:30 am and 12:30 pm. Meet in the Heritage Room where there be a buffet set up, free lunch.

Faculty Shop Talk

Mary McHugh (Associate Professor, Classics) will present at Faculty Shop Talk on Friday, April 8. Her talk entitled, "The Wolf of Gubbio in Context: From Assisi to Pampulha, Brazil" will be presented at 4:30 p.m. in the Interpretive Center. New Faculty Orientation Session

Join us on Thursday, April 14 for a New Faculty Orientation Session. Topic: Sustaining scholarly and creative endeavors. You may feel so swamped with transitioning and teaching that you barely have time to work on the scholarly or creative endeavors that are part of your academic identity. Share short and long term strategies for how to sustain these endeavors. Presenter: Lisa Heldke. Free lunch at the Three Crowns Buffet, then meet in the President's Dining Room (PDR) 12:30 to 1:20 p.m....

Teachers Talking - Möbius Initiative Info Session

Join us on Tuesday, April 26 for a Teachers Talking Möbius Initiative Info Session. Interested in collaborating across disciplines with a Gustavus colleague (or alumna/us or student)? Want to develop an interdisciplinary project ahead of the proposed new general education curriculum? Möbius projects can take a variety of formats so that you can follow your interests. Hear from this year's Möbius participants and find out more over lunch. Program at 11:30 am and 12:30 pm. Free lunch at Three Crowns buffet, then meet in the St Peter Room.

New faculty mentor/mentee social (tenure-track only)

All new tenure-track faculty and mentors please join us on Wednesday, April 20 for a wine and cheese social from 4:30 pm to 6 pm in the Three Crowns Room. This is a social for new tenure-track faculty and their mentors. New faculty (and their mentors) from the past two years are also invited.

Reading in Common: Book Giveaway

The first year reading in common book has been announced: Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates. To enable all faculty members to participate in the campus conversation, the Kendall Center is happy to announce that we will be offering a free book for any faculty member who would like one. Please email your request to the Kendall Center's administrative assistant, Cathy Blaukat (cblaukat@gac.edu) and a copy will be placed in campus mail for you.

The final session of the year where outstanding questions are answered and faculty feedback about the orientation program is gathered. Kendall Center Summer Workshop - Let's Get That Article Published!

Ready to turn your paper into an article? Facilitated by Associate Professor of Religion Sarah Ruble, this workshop will help you turn an existing manuscript into a publishable piece. Over the summer you will develop a feasible work plan for your scholarship and engage in activities that address the necessary components in the academic publishing process. By participating in the workshop, you will be on track to submit an article to an editor at a journal of your choice by the end of summer. Workshop information and application can be found on the Kendall Center Website. Deadline is Friday, May 6.
