Scholarship Development Grant
Scholarship Development Grants are small grants of up to $500 to support the development of faculty’s research, scholarship, and creative work. In their proposal, faculty must:
- Explain how the financial resources provided will advance their project
- Describe the anticipated outcome/product of the activity (presentation, publication, artifact, etc.)
- Attest to the likelihood that the funded activity will ensure the anticipated outcome.
Faculty are not eligible for more than one scholarship development grant in a fiscal year (June 1-May 31).
Expenses may include:
- Registration fees for workshops, seminars, online courses, and webinars that advance faculty member’s preparation for research
- Specialized training (e.g. how to use new instruments/equipment)
- Outside guest experts that support scholarly development
- Materials and supplies (one time only; continuing costs for materials and supplies should be integrated into department/program budgets)
- Travel to further a line of inquiry (e.g. visit an archive, undertake an ethnographic project, use lab equipment not available at Gustavus)
- Fees associated with collecting primary materials
- Publishing fees
- Student research assistant hours (pay rate is set by the College)
- Research participant incentives
Disallowed expenses:
- Workshops, seminars, or meetings for which participants are given a stipend by an outside granting agency
- Stipends to Gustavus Adolphus College faculty, staff, or students
- Guest lecture honoraria; these should normally be supported through department or program budgets.
- Student activities (e.g. travel, entertainment, or expenses)
- Registration or travel to faculty members’ professional conference (see Travel Fund)
- Entertainment
