Peer Mentor/Success Coach Information

Mentors and Success Coaches are individuals who have a desire to provide guidance to 1st- and 2nd-year students. These students are primarily first-generation college students and multicultural students.

How do I get involved as a Peer Mentor or Success Coach?

To become a Peer Mentor, you must:

  • Be a Gustavus Junior, Senior, or recent college graduate with less than 2 years professional experience post graduation
          -If you are a current student, you must be in good academic standing and maintain a GPA of 2.75+ throughout the program
  • Be an active participate in Diversity Center programs and engage in campus activities
  • Display leadership skills and serve as a role model to your mentee(s)
  • Have an interest in supporting, mentoring and developing future leaders
  • Be familiar with campus resources and opportunities (additional training will be provided)
  • Be available twice a month for at least one hours to meet with and spend time with your mentee(s)

To become a Success Coach, you must:

  • Be a member of the Gustavus community (faculty, staff, administrators, or alum with 2+ years professional experience post graduation)
  • Serve as a trusted counselor or guide to a 1st or 2nd year student
  • Have an interest in supporting, mentoring and developing future leaders
  • Help educate mentees about campus resources and opportunities (additional training will be provided)
  • Be available twice a month for a minimum of one hour to meet with and spend time with your mentee(s).
          -If you are an alum, you must be available to talk and communicate with your mentee(s) ocassionally via email or telephone
