CIE Inclusive Excellence Award

The Center for Inclusive Excellence, in collaboration with the Gustavus Book Mark, offers a textbook & supplies award (up to $350 per semester) to help subsidize the cost of textbooks and/or academic supplies (Art, Science Labs, etc.) which can be can be applied toward the Equitable Access Subscription. This opportunity is available to students who:

  • Identify as being...from historically underrepresented group, first generation+ to college, LGBTQ+, and/or multilingual (and/or)...
  • Are eligible for the Pell Grant or Minnesota State Grant

The Center is excited to continue partnership with the Gustavus Book Mark, who continues to strive for affordable and equitable access to course materials. In order to gain the greatest benefit, applicants should remain "opted-in". (Stay tuned for more information from the Book Mark) 

Students who meet the necessary eligibility qualifications must submit an award application along with the accompanying essay. If applicable, financial need base should be verified (a simple verification through the Financial Aid Office).

All portions of the application must be submitted in order to be considered. As such students are incouraged to submit the completed application form and essay at the same time. Failure to provide all of the necessary documents will deem the application invalid, and the next individual on the waitlist will be notified.

1) Students must meet at least one of the following criteria to be eligible for the award: 

  • Historically Underrepresented Group
  • First Generation to College
  • LGBTQ+
  • Multilingual 
  • Pell Grant Eligible
  • MN State Grant Eligible

2) Applicants must also submit:

  • An Response to the Essay Prompt: 

Notified award recipients who have completed and submitted the award application and essay response will be awarded $350. 

NOTE: All award transactions will be reflected on each individual recipients college account. Once students have received notification of the award, please check with the Book Mark as to the status of the award. The Center for Inclusive Excellence does not track student accounts.

For best results, eligible essays submissions should:

  • Completely answer the above prompt...
  • Be typed in an easily read 12-14pt font (Arial, Helvetica, etc.)...
  • Be between 1 and 1.5 pages, double-spaced
  • Delivered to the Center for Inclusive Excellence (101 Johnson), or emailed to tflunker@gustavus.edu .
