Gustavus Summer Institute for Academic Success

Be Our Guest

The Summer Institute for Academic Success is an initiative designed to provide academic writing support for multilingual students (any incoming student who speaks a language other than English at home some, most, or all of the time is eligible to attend the Summer Institute). This four-day event, scheduled during the four days immediately prior to First-Year Orientation, is held on the campus of Gustavus Adolphus College and is free for invited students. The College will cover the costs of early move into residence halls, meals, and supplies required during the Institute. In addition, upon successful completion of the program, participants will be provided a $100 credit at the Bookmark toward the purchase of course materials.

About the Gustavus Summer Institute for Academic Success

If you choose to attend, you will move into your residence hall Sunday afternoon and take part in a series of workshops and classes throughout the week. These classes will introduce you to Gustavus’s Writing Across the Curriculum program and help sharpen the reading and writing skills you will use during the Fall semester. You will also learn about other campus resources available to support the success of multilingual students.

This is also an opportunity for you to learn about your classmates, the Gustavus campus, and the Saint Peter/Mankato community. Amongst other activities, we have planned a family-invited meal Sunday evening following move-in, a tour of important locations in Saint Peter and Mankato, and a meal at a local restaurant.

If you have any questions about the Institute or support for multilingual students at Gustavus, please contact Laura Lindell (llindell@gustavus.edu or 507-933-7197). Welcome to Gustavus! We are eager to get the new academic year started and are so pleased that you will be here to join us.
