Where Do Gusties Live?
No matter where you live on The Hill, you’ll find connection, convenience, and community. All first-year students share double-occupancy rooms in one of two residence halls. In your sophomore year and beyond, your options expand to doubles, triples, quads, suites, apartments, and singles. As a returning student you have the opportunity to select your roommate(s) and rooms through our room selection process.
First Year Student Housing
All first-year Gusties live in Pittman or Norelius Halls.
Pittman Hall
Steps from the Fine Arts buildings, you’ll share a double-occupancy room (including in-room sink and built-in wardrobe) with one roommate. Hang out with other first-year Gusties in the huge lower-level lounge or in the smaller ones common areas on each floor. Pittman Hall is gendered by floor.
Norelius Hall
Welcome to Gustavus’s largest residence hall, featuring a pool table and conversation area on the main floor. All rooms are shared doubles and organized into 12-room pods, each of which shares a common central lounge. Genders are arranged by pod, and there’s an open-gender option, too.
Returning Student Housing
There’s no cookie-cutter housing at Gustavus. Most sophomores—and some juniors—live in what Gusties commonly call “Complex.” North, Gibbs, and Sorensen Halls are all connected, meaning many of your friends live right down the hall.
Looking for a more intimate community experience? Common choices include Rundstrom and Prairie View Halls. Other Gusties gravitate to Uhler and Southwest Halls, each offering a unique set of amenities and room configurations.
And it keeps getting better. The longer you live on campus, the higher priority you have to choose your room next year.
Gibbs Hall
Sometimes known as Link because it links North and Sorensen Halls, Gibbs offers the best of both worlds: It’s almost exclusively single rooms, and is situated between two of our largest residence halls.
North Hall
Amenities such as spacious lounges, a kitchen, and a study room attract Gusties to this large hall, which is connected to Gibbs and Sorensen Halls.
Prairie View Hall
Home to our Pet-Friendly pilot program, this single-story building features gender-neutral housing for around 55 sophomores, juniors, and seniors. Its attractions include air conditioning, a shared kitchen and lounge, and is centrally located to many academic buildings.
Rundstrom Hall
Home to about 100 sophomores and juniors, Rundstrom Hall offers a close-knit community and features rooms with handy built-in sinks.
Sohre Hall
Seeking a single room? Sohre Hall is the place. When you’re ready to socialize, relax in the lower-level lounge and kitchen. Rooms in Sohre also feature built-in wardrobes and sinks.
Sorensen Hall
Connected to Gibbs and North halls, Sorensen offers large windows, lower-level lounges, a kitchen, and a high-energy social life. It’s close to campus dining and the Lund Center.
Uhler Hall
Housing around 200 sophomores, juniors, and seniors, Uhler offers a variety of room configurations, including doubles, triples, and quats. Enjoy the flexible, open-gender room configuration in Uhler. Another attraction? Uhler is just steps from the Campus Center.
Junior and Senior Housing
Most seniors—and some juniors— live with roommates in furnished on-campus suites or apartments.Think two-four bedrooms, shared in-unit bathrooms and common living spaces—the ideal balance of privacy and community. All of the apartments include an in-unit kitchen.
Arbor View Apartments
Seniors (and a few juniors) get the best of both worlds in these furnished apartments: The independence of off-campus living and the reliability of campus-owned housing.
Chapel View Townhouses
Gusties rave about the in-unit washer-dryers and great kitchens in these furnished townhouses, each of which offers four single bedrooms and two bathrooms. Bedrooms have built-in sinks, too.
College View Apartments
A popular choice for Gustie athletes, these apartments are just steps from athletics and workout facilities. Each two-bedroom apartment comes furnished with the basics and has an in-unit kitchen. Community lounges and laundry provide ample opportunities to socialize or bump into your neighbor.
Southwest Hall
Almost 200 juniors and seniors live in four-person apartments and suites in this hall, situated near several academic buildings. “Swest” is known for its sunny atriums—excellent hangout spots—and sunset views from the upper floors.
Specialty Housing
Carlson International Center
The Carlson International Center (IC) is centrally located on campus and houses the Crossroads Community and Swedish House. IC provides cross-cultural programs to gather 85 returning students in suites and doubles. You’ll complete a special application and selection process in order to live in the International Center.

Intentional Learning and Service Houses
Each year, groups of four to six students live in one of five themed “core value” houses. Gusties join forces in a living-learning environment to create projects that promote the college’s core values. Demand is high and spots are limited, so plan for a rigorous application process.
