Summer on Campus
Staying after Spring semester for research, a class, an on-campus job, or a for-credit internship? You may qualify for on-campus summer housing. Learn about the criteria, costs, and other details.
Am I eligible?
To qualify for Summer housing, you must be a current Gustavus student registered for the upcoming Fall semester. If a graduating senior, you must be registered for Summer term courses for the full housing period and/or be working for an on-campus department.
If there are more applicants than summer housing spaces, priority is given to those meeting one (or more) of the following criteria:
- Conducting research: You must list your supervisor(s) on the application form. Your information will be verified with the Research and Sponsored Programs Office.
- Enrolled for course credit.
- Enrolled in an internship for credit: Internships can be on or off campus.
- Working at an on-campus job: We require that you are working at least 20 hours per week. Multiple jobs that add up to 20 hours are acceptable.
- International students: Those who require year-round housing due to international travel or visa status.

Need short-term housing only until May 14? Apply for After-Finals Housing in your housing portal.
Summer Housing covers any on-campus housing between May 15 and the start of the Fall semester. This includes living in your Spring residence until Summer move-around, then Summer Housing in June and July, and then the move to your Fall assignment in August.

Where will I live?
Summer housing is traditionally offered in Chapel View and College View. Available buildings and units may vary and are subject to change.
What will it cost?
The Summer housing billing period covers any on-campus housing between May 15 and August 31.
2026 rate: $410 per month ($102.50 per week)
Placement fee: If you are assigned a summer housing space, you will be billed for the full date range you request. There is a $100 placement fee for no-shows and late cancellations.
Ending your Summer assignment: Any period when you have belongings in a room and/or possession of the room key will be charged as use of campus housing.
Even if you leave campus, Summer billing continues until you remove your belongings and return your checkout envelope and room key to the Housing and Residential Life Office. Do not give your key to someone else to return. It is your responsibility. Summer housing rates and lost key charges will apply if the key is not returned.
Pro-rated option: If you use housing for only part of summer, you will be billed based on check-in and check-out dates. Any stay through Wednesday counts as a full housing week. Example: Housing from June 9–18 would be charged as two weeks ($205).
Moving in and out
Are you leaving after finals and coming back later in summer? You must fully vacate your Spring assignment and return your room keys/checkout envelope to the Housing and Residential Life Office according to the regular move-out schedule and process.
You may not leave anything in your Spring room assignment. Please note, storage is unavailable for Summer residents.
Who’s around?
Collegiate Fellows are staffed Summer Housing. They will have posted duty hours for emergencies and will serve as a resource if you have needs or concerns. CFs also provide summer programming opportunities.
