For after-hours arrivals, please email us at housing [at] gustavus.edu (housing[at]gustavus[dot]edu) to coordinate.

Early Arrival Requests

  • If you’re required to be on campus before Thursday, August 27, request early arrival housing at this page.

  • Please note Early Arrival Requests are reserved for those students who are required to move in early (i.e., athletics, student employment, leadership role). If you would like to drop your stuff off early, request an Early Belonging Drop Off.

Guidelines: What to Bring

  • Pack your laptop, but leave the adhesive LEDs at home. For a complete checklist and room decoration guide, please see our What to Bring Guidelines.
  • We’ll send more move-in day details with tips, parking, and drop-off guidelines in August.

  • New student? Get more information on the housing process at this page.

  • Review the full list of Housing and Residence Life Policies within the Gustie Guide.

Early Belongings Drop-off

  • You may schedule an optional time slot to bring belongings into your Fall room assignment in mid August. Watch your Gustavus email: The booking link will open in late July and we’ll send dates by email.
  • This service isn’t available if your Fall housing assignment is in Arbor View, College View or Chapel View, as those halls are used for summer housing.
  • Please do not book a belongings drop-off time slot if you are approved for early arrival. That is a separate process.

  • A time slot booking will be required to be able to move in belongings early.

  • Bookings will close 72 hours in advance of each arrival time to allow time for programming card access and preparing keys.

  • You will pick up your room key at the Housing and Residence Life office—lower level of the Jackson Campus Center, 105.

  • Move in your belongings and lock your door before departing campus. Keep your key with you for when you return for the posted move-in dates.

  • This is different from early arrival move-in (see below). Belongings drop-off bookings do not all for overnight stays in your room.

  • The early arrival move-in application will be available in student housing portals later in the summer, and should be submitted by August 1.

  • Students who are required to be on campus early (i.e., athletics, student employment, leadership role, etc.) must submit an application and be approved, and their early arrival housing is billed to the sponsoring department.

  • Those who live more than 350 miles from campus can submit for early arrival, move-in one day earlier than their scheduled arrival/official move-in date at no charge.

  • Those without a sponsoring department would be charged a $75 per night early arrival housing fee. Submitting the application in advance and being approved is still required.

  • Those who violate the early return approval process (i.e., not receiving approval for early return, allowing roommates or friends to move-in without approval, etc.) are subject to a $150 per night charge to their student account for all parties involved.
