Requirements for professional schools vary from school to school and can change year by year, students must carefully examine the pre-requisite requirements of the schools they are interested in to be current and accurate when registering for courses at Gustavus. Consult the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) guide for requirements and admission statistics to the 130+ Medical Schools for the most accurate information, Medical School Admission Requirements.

Indicated in italic type (MCAT) means the course is also recommended for the Medical College Admission Test.

First Year: Fall

BIO 101 Principles of Biology (MCAT)

CHE 107 Principles of Chemistry (MCAT)

FTS 100 (Writing Intensive course- WRITI)

S/A 112 Principles of Sociology or PSY 100 General Psychology (MCAT)


First Year: Spring

BIO 102 Organismal Biology (MCAT)

CHE 141 Organic Chemistry I (MCAT)

BIO 202 Evolution, Ecology, & Behavior (recommended) (MCAT recommended) (pre-requisite for upper level BIO courses)

MCS 121 or 118/119 Calculus


Third Year: Fall

PHY 120/121 General Physics I or PHY 122/121 General Physics (with calculus) (MCAT)

CHE 255 Biochemistry (MCAT Spring 2015 on exam) (or Spring)


Third Year: Spring

PHY 170/171 General Physics II or PHY 172/171 General Physics II (with calculus) (MCAT)


Fourth Year: Fall

Elective- Humanities or Social Science upper level course, with an intensive writing requirement, WRITI. (U of M requirement- "upper level courses are typically those with a course number of 300 or higher. Writing intensive courses are ones in which writing is an integral part of the course. Typically, you're required to complete at least one, 10 page paper.") The U of M accepts a Gustavus 200 or 300 level Humanities or Social Science with the writing component for this requirement.

HES 234 Human Anatomy and Physiology I or *BIO 386 Comparative Physiology (*Spring only, open to BIO and BIOChem majors) (Creighton requirement, need both HES 234 and HES 235 or BIO 386)

 

Fourth Year: Spring

HES 235 Human Anatomy and Physiology II or *BIO 386 Comparative Physiology (*Spring only, open to BIO and BIOChem majors)  (Creighton requirement, need both HES 234 and HES 235 or BIO 386)
