Major Redevelopment Grant

Departmental/Program expenses associated with revising curricula may apply for departmental grants of up to $2000. Allowable expenses are one-time costs that contribute to a substantial reimagining or reconfiguration of a major in response to recent curricular changes at the College. Proposals must have approval of at least 2 members of the program/department, including the chair/director.

SUBMIT GRANT PROPOSAL

Proposals must:

  • Describe the anticipated outcome for the departmental/program curriculum
  • Make clear how the funding will contribute to that outcome
  • Describe how the curricular redevelopment will enhance student learning
Expenses may include:
  • Costs associated with learning new pedagogical approaches necessary for curricular change
  • Honoraria/travel expenses for outside guest experts that support pedagogical or curricular development for multiple faculty on campus (providing a workshop or seminar, not a lecture)
  • Materials and supplies (one time only; continuing costs for materials and supplies must be integrated into department/program budgets)
Disallowed expenses:
  • Stipends to Gustavus Adolphus College faculty, staff, or students
  • Guest lecture honoraria for class visits
  • Student activities (e.g. travel, entertainment, or expenses)
  • Registration or travel for faculty members’ professional conference (see Faculty Travel Fund)
  • Entertainment expenses that are not compliant with College policy; entertainment may not be the primary activity of the grant
  • Recurring expenses (e.g. a subscription may be funded as part of the redevelopment process, but the Kendall Center will not provide recurring funding)
  • Activities that could otherwise be supported by either the Teaching or Curriculum Development grants

For changes to, or development of, individual classes, please apply for one of the other KCEL grants:

  • Teaching Development Grants are small grants of up to $500 to support faculty members’ pedagogical development. Proposals should make clear how the funding will foster the incorporation of new and better approaches to teaching intended to enhance student learning.
  • Curriculum Development Grants are summer grants to support faculty designing a new semester-long course or substantially re-designing an existing semester-long course.
