Marit Sonnesyn '16
Name: Marit Sonnesyn
Graduating Class: 2016
Major: Biology, Poli Sci Minor
Your Story:
I graduated from Wayzata High School in 2012 and decided to attend Gustavus because I wanted to receive a well-rounded education from a liberal arts school while having the opportunity to particpate in varsity athletics. A career in health care was always an interest in the back of my mind, but I tried to take advantage of being able to explore many different avenues while I was at Gustavus. A research paper for a political science course on the politics of health care and poverty was what confirmed my desire to become a PA.
Top Five Activities/Experiences: (in no particular order)
- Camp counselor at an outdoor adventure camp for underprivileged youth
- Being a student-athlete
- Research experience (outside of Nobel/hard sciences)
- Working/volunteering at a nursing home
- Nobel Conference
Advice:
- Gain a variety job experiences within healthcare- CNA, scribe, job shadow, etc.
- Take a variety of courses at Gustavus- you may find an unexpected area of interest
- Take advantage of the resources at Gustavus before you graduate!!!
Future Plans: I have chosen to defer a year at St. Kate's. I will start PA school there in 2017.
