Carston Dammann '17
Name: Carston Dammann
Graduating Class: 2017
Major: Chemistry
Your Story: I came to Gustavus knowing I wanted to do pre-med and decided to major in chemistry. I was involved in many activities throughout my time at Gustavus that prepared me for attempting to get into medical school. The professors at this school along with Heather Banks were instrumental parts in helping me reach my goal of getting into a medical school. I not only achieved my dream of getting into a medical school, but I enjoyed the journey that brought me to this point.
Top Five Activities/Experiences: (in no particular order)
- Cross Country
- Track and Field
- Research in the chemistry department with Dr. Dwight Stoll
- Trip to Honduras with Global Medical Brigades
- January Interim Pre-Health Career Exploration
Advice:
- Talk to your professors or the pre-health advisor! They’re here to help and they do an excellent job.
- If you want to do research with a professor at Gustavus just ask them. They’re very open to finding a place in their lab or another lab for you.
- Just have fun. Don’t spend every waking moment studying, take some time out to have fun and forget about academic stuff for a while.
Future Plans: Attending Creighton University School of Medicine, starting Fall of 2017. I would like to go into internal medicine, but I’m open to different specialties as well!
