Your Story:  My name is Elise Rosenow and I am from Maple Grove, MN. I graduated from Gustavus in 2013 and while there I was fortunate to be involved in several activities and groups. I had the opportunity my sophomore year to participate in the health career explorations during J-term which helped confirm my interest in medicine. My senior year I was a volunteer in the ER at the hospital in Mankato. I also minored in Spanish and my junior year I spent my J-term in Costa Rica, which was an amazing trip! I loved every moment of my time at Gustavus.

Going into college I always knew I wanted to be in medicine but it was not until my senior year that I decided being a physician assistant was the perfect fit for what I wanted out of my career. It did take me applying to PA school twice to get in, but I am pleased with my decision and am happy to say I started PA school at Wake Forest School of Medicine in North Carolina this June (2015).

After I graduated from Gustavus I spent two years working as a medical scribe at North Memorial Medical Center in the emergency room. I saw and learned so much about medicine during my time as a scribe. That job was really eye opening to emergency medicine and also was incredibly helpful for writing my personal statement and for answering interview questions for PA school. I got to see such a variety of patient complaints that came through the ER doors, gained so much medical knowledge, and I also had the opportunity to get to know several of the doctors, PAs, and nurses who all provided me a better understanding of medicine.
