Your Story: When I first came to Gustavus, I knew that I wanted to work in the healthcare field but did not know specifically what field. I started to talk with doctors, nurses, optometrists, and pharmacists to get a sense of what each field was like. After talking with people from different healthcare fields I found that I was drawn to Pharmacy because it offers diverse opportunities in the field and Pharmacists are an integral part of healthcare teams that aim to provide the best quality of care to patients. I also found pharmacy as the right choice for me because it provides me an opportunity to work in a field that works to develop and advance medicine and work towards creating a more equitable healthcare system for all.

Top Five Activites/Experiences:

1. Melting Mountains (J-term study abroad)

2. SSRC Grant to research the impact COVID-19 has had on marginalized communities in the United States

3. Admission Tour Guide

4. Chemistry TA and Tutor

5. Collegiate Fellow

Advice:

1. Start talking and shadowing individuals in the field to get a good sense of what your future career looks like currently and see if it is the right fit for you.

2. There is no one right way to do things. Just because you may do something different from others does not mean that it is wrong, so do not compare yourself to others.

3. You are bound to make mistakes. Learn and grow from them. One bad grade or test score does not mean that you are not capable to go into your desired field.
