Wellness as a Community (WaaC)

All employees are welcome to participate in the numerous wellness and fitness activities offered at Gustavus.

Each semester a schedule of classes is created for employees to attend. There typically is no sign-up and employees attend as their schedule allows. The classes are a supportive atmosphere where all skill levels and fitness are welcome. The schedule includes classes such as:

  • Yoga
  • TRX
  • Pilates
  • Weights
  • Aerobics

Join the BoomTime soccer group. All skill levels welcome.

  • Every Tuesday & Thursday @12:15 - 1:15 p.m., while the weather is nice!

Gustie Runners is a drop in running group of Gustavus employees (and partners and friends) that meets every Tuesday at 5 p.m. at the Lund entrance. 

Runners and walkers of all paces and distances are welcome.

Gustavus employees can be partnered with a Health Exercise Science student for a semester for personal training & wellness assessments. There is no cost to participate.

Employees may use the weights, cardio equipment, track, racquetball court, and fitness rooms. Bring your employee ID to access the facilities. 

Employee Resource Groups

The group fosters an inclusive workplace for LGBTQ+ people here at Gustavus that treats everyone justly
according to their circumstances.
Goals 

  • LGBTQ+ people at Gustavus Adolphus College know they have a safe space to raise concerns
    Increased awareness of and compassion for gender identity/expression and sexual
    orientation equality issues
  • Proportional LGBTQ+ representation employed at all levels
  • Public support of the larger LGBTQ+ community from the College through representation in
    local, state, and national organizations, donations of money and time, and vendor selection
    consideration

The group works to enhance the professional and social offerings for those who are either early in their career
and/or early in their time at Gustavus through a collaborative and supportive network.

Goals 

  • To connect with others at Gustavus with similar levels of familiarity with the institution.
  • To share and acquire knowledge about the processes and happenings of Gustavus.
  • To build a community across campus that cultivates a sense of place and belonging for
    young professionals.

The group brings the Gustavus Community together to foster opportunities to engage in networking and
education while enjoying the outdoors.

Goals 

  • Foster cross campus interaction and increase connectivity in Gustavus employees (faculty
    and staff)
  • Promote employee retention, well-being, community engagement.
  • Have fun!

The group works to develop a safe and inclusive space for Faculty/Staff of Color to be supported at Gustavus with allies/accomplices for anti-racism. All are welcome. 

Goals 

  • Develop cross-departmental social connections and network to support each other in the
    work we’re doing, to break down silos and barriers.
  • Provide opportunities for all Gustavus community members to learn and practice anti-racism
    on campus, in their community, and in their circles of influence.
  • Create conversation spaces for racial justice allies using the circle dialogue method.

The group fosters a supportive and inclusive workplace for parents and caregivers and promote work-life balance.

Goals

  • Maintain an annually updated communication and resource hub for asking questions, sharing information, and creating communal support for parents, caregivers, and families
  • Facilitate knowledge of community resources (local daycare providers, schools, St. Peter Library, Early Childhood and Family Education, etc.)
  • Support family-friendly work policies and work-life balance practices
  • Hold one in-person event per semester to build community

The group fosters an inclusive and inviting workplace for people who self-identify as neurodivergent and/or are supporting neurodivergent loved ones. This group aims to treat everyone with dignity and respect, while honoring neurodiversity and each individual’s unique lived experiences. 

Goals

  • To increase awareness of and compassion toward the neurodiversity that exists among Gustavus’s employees and their loved ones;
  • To provide an inclusive and welcoming environment for individuals to learn about neurodiversity, seek support, share resources, and create meaningful connections;
  • To identify the potential negative impacts of current systems and advocate for implementing and/or changing systems so that all neurotypes can flourish;
  • To increase visibility and understanding of neurodiversity at all levels within the college;
  • And to improve employee retention and decrease burnout by fostering a more positive work experience.

Gustavus Professional Development Days

All Gustavus employees are invited to attend the many sessions offered during Gustavus Professional Development days. These sessions are planned during January and May when classes are not in session.

With the help of current Gustavus employees and a few outside experts, these sessions will allow you to engage with leaders on campus, explore a wide variety of topics, learn something new, and have fun along the way!
