Kyle Chambers

Faculty

Associate Professor and Chair in Psychological Science

Dr. Kyle E. Chambers explores children’s cognitive development, typically focusing on issues related to language acquisition. Most recently, he has been collaborating on a project with Katherine White (University of Waterloo) that investigates how accented speech is represented in a child’s developing mental lexicon. He serves as the co-director of the Center for Developmental Science at Gustavus.

Dr. Chambers is also deeply committed to community engagement and worked with the NSF supported National Living Laboratory Initiative to found the first Living Laboratory in Minnesota at the Children’s Museum of Southern Minnesota where children and their caregivers learn about how developmental research is conducted as data is collected. He is a founder of the Cedar Valley CoLab, a community laboratory that strategically integrates the needs of community organizations with the College’s student learning outcomes. Both organizations provide unique opportunities for undergraduates to gain valuable research experience while interacting with community members and lay audiences.
