Laurent DecheryEmeriti
Laurent Déchery is a professor of French. He also teaches for the department of philosophy. He grew up in France and holds an M.A. and a PhD from the University of Paris X (Nanterre) in philosophy. He worked on George Berkeley's theory of vision. His research focused on issues of perception in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries in France. He has published a book entitled Le premier regard, essai d'anatomie métaphysique and a French translation of Berkeley's +An Essay Towards a New Theory of Vision. He also has published an introduction to philosophy for young readers.His work has appeared in Mosaic, Romance Quaterly, and The French Review. He is currently doing research on Denis Diderot's tales as well as French cinema.
He teaches courses in French at all levels (language, literature, and culture) and in English (continental and modern philosophy, senior seminars, and aesthetics)
