These scholarships are available for Gustavus students participating in study away programs. All awards listed here consider financial need (unless otherwise noted).

 
Gustavus Adolphus General Study Away Scholarships
  • CICE awards a number of modest scholarship each year on the basis of financial need.
  • The average award increases a student's financial aid package by $500.
  • Deadline is April 15 for all eligible terms.

Dean Family Study Away Scholarship
  • Awarded annually to a student who might not otherwise be able to afford study away participation.
  • Awards up to $2000, of which 80% is above existing financial aid (net gain of about $1600).
  • Good for programs offered during the academic year, fall semester, or spring semester.
  • Deadline is April 15 for all eligible terms.

Ginger Haddorff Scholarship
  • Awarded every second or third year to a Gustavus Adolphus study away student with high academic merit who might not otherwise be able to study away.
  • Awards up to $5,000, of which 80% is above existing financial aid (net gain of up to $4000).
  • Good for international programs only, and only for semester or academic-year options.
  • Next offering will be for 2021-22.
  • Deadline is April 15 for all eligible terms.

Hasselquist Scandinavian Scholar Award
  • The Gustavus Scandinavian Studies Department offers multiple scholarships of up to $2,500 to support study away in Scandinavian countries (Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden) on a Gustavus-sponsored program.
  • Available for all academic terms (semesters and summer).
  • Open to all students going to Scandinavia, with a preference for Scandinavian Studies majors and for students who will study at Uppsala University.
  • Deadline is April 15 for all eligible terms.

Steene Travel Fund for Sweden
  • The Steene Travel Fund provides grants of up to $1500 toward travel and living costs for Gustavus students studying in Sweden for a semester or academic year.
  • The grants are not need-based. Applicants will be asked to complete a brief online application including a short essay.
  • Eligibility: Gustavus students in third or fourth year, majoring in Scandinavian studies, and studying in Sweden.
  • Preferences: Students pursuing studies of Swedish culture and politics; pre-law students; studying at Uppsala University.
  • Deadline is April 15 for all eligible terms.

Peace Education Scholarships
  • The Gustavus program in Peace, Justice and Conflict Studies offers these scholarships, which range from $500 to $1,000 to support study away related to peace studies.
  • Application deadline varies but is usually in the spring between March and May.

Ruth Youngdahl Nelson Scholarship
  • The Gustavus program in Peace, Justice and Conflict Studies offers this scholarship to a student who plans to become actively involved in peace-making in an experiential way.
  • Application deadline varies but is usually in the spring between March and May.
