SAAC CONSTITUTION
1. Article I: Name
a. The name of this group shall be the Gustavus Adolphus College Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
2. Article II: Purpose
a. The Gustavus Adolphus College Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) strives to enhance the total student-athlete experience by promoting opportunity, protecting student-athlete welfare, fostering a positive student-athlete image, as well as, encouraging attendance to all sporting events of Gustavus Athletics.
b. SAAC is a group of Gustie Athletes who are devoted to improving the atmosphere of the athletic community and also to benefit the overall wellbeing of the campus community. SAAC’s initiative to benefit others targets a monthly basis of events to raise awareness to sporting events of other teams as well as unite the student body to create an athletic atmosphere second to none in the NCAA.
3. Article III: Membership
a. Categories of membership
Leadership - 6 student-athletes who represent all student-athletes of SAAC
Representatives - 2 student-athletes who represent each of the 23 sports on campus
Members - Any student-athlete within the organization outside of the 2 team representatives.
b. Section 1: Qualifications (Minimum requirements for Gustavus SAAC
membership are):
i. Current membership of a recognized varsity intercollegiate sport.
ii. Full-time student status, in a good academic standing
iii. A 2nd semester freshman residency status.
iv. Desire to facilitate growth of student athletes.
4. Article IV: Meetings
a. Meetings will be held once a month during the academic year on Mondays at 7 pm. Dates,
and location of said meetings will be determined by the SAAC membership.
b. Section 1: Attendance Policy
i. SAAC members are expected to attend each meeting. Excused absences are acceptable but must be cleared with the Advisor in advance of the meeting.
c. Section 2: General Meeting Structure
i. Advisors will begin meeting with an explanation of the agenda. Agendas may contain legislation from the NCAA as well as brainstorming for next events.
ii. Executive board meetings are heavily invested into the deeper details of events.
5. Article V: Executive Committee
a. The Executive Committee of the organization shall be two Co-Presidents, two Co-Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Risk Manager, and advisor. Only official SAAC representatives are eligible for Executive Committee appointment.
b. Section 1: Dutiesi. President
1. Presides over meetings.
2. Functions as spokesperson for SAAC.
3. Performs all duties as are incidental to the office and which are required of the office by the organization.
ii. Vice-President
1. Presides over meetings in the absence of the President.
2. Exercises all the functions of the office of the President in the absence of the President.
3. Performs all duties as are incidental to the office and which are required of the office by the organization
iii. Secretary
1. Keep written records of all SAAC general meetings and Executive Committee meetings.
2. Responsible for all correspondence relevant to the SAAC.
3. Performs all duties as are incidental to the office and which are required of the office by the organization
iv. Treasurer
1. Handle all financial matters of SAAC and keep accurate records of said matters.
2. Act as the liaison to the Gustavus Adolphus College Student Senate Finance Committee.

1. Determine amount of engagement required from SAAC Hill Crew
2. Bring attention to areas of SAAC that might be functioning improperlyvi. Advisor
1. Be the overarching guide to SAAC Hill Crew
c. Section 2: Election to Office
i. Voting for Executive Committee officers will take place annually at the last regularly scheduled April SAAC meeting. Officer elections will consist of a nomination process, elections, and run-off elections if necessary.
d. Section 3: Terms of Office
i. The term of appointment for each Executive Committee position shall be one (1) year (Fall – Spring). Executive Committee members may run for re-election as long as they fulfill the general SAAC membership requirements.
e. Section 4: Removal from Office
i. In the event an officer is judged to be deficient in his/her duties (as determined by a unanimous agreement of the remaining executive officers and advisor), he/she may be removed by a two-thirds vote of the active organization membership. The advisor shall oversee the process of removal from office.
6. Article VI: Standing Committees
a. Three committees will be continuously active; Social Media, Hill Crew, and Student-Athlete Banquet. Members are encouraged to be engaged with a committee, but not required.
7. Article VII: Voting
a. All SAAC members are eligible to vote.
b. The SAAC President has the express power and authority to grant attendance
rule exceptions to those representatives whose absence is the result of an
official varsity sport activity or academic obligation.
c. Motions will be passed with a simple majority vote except for amendments to
the constitution.
8. Article VIII: Finances
a. Funds of the organization shall be raised primarily through fundraising.
b. Funds are allocated to all SAAC organizations of the MIAC conference, given from the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
c. Upon dissolution of the SAAC Hill Crew organization, any financial assets will be credited to the Gustavus Student Senate.
ARTICLE IX:
BY-LAWS
a. By-laws may be established by club members and reviewed each September. Any member in good standing can propose the by-laws. They will be prepared for voting by the Executive Board members and submitted to members in writing prior to the meeting where voting is to take place.
b. All members in good standing are eligible to vote, but must be present at the meeting to do so. A majority vote is needed to allow the by-law to pass.
ARTICLE X:
AMENDMENTS
a. All members of the SAAC Hill Crew that are in good standing may propose Amendments. The proposed amendments will be reviewed by the Executive Board members and submitted to members in writing at least 2 weeks before voting is to take place.
b. All members in good standing are eligible to vote, but must be present at the meeting to do so. A two-thirds (2/3) majority is needed to allow the amendment to pass.
c. If amendments are passed they take effect at the end of the meeting during which they are passed.
d. The constitution will be reviewed annually in September of each year by the new president.
