Statement Of Purpose/ Mission
The Gustavus Adolphus College Pickleball Club is dedicated to fostering a welcoming and inclusive community for students of all skill levels to enjoy the sport of pickleball. We aim to promote physical fitness, teamwork, and sportsmanship while offering opportunities for friendly competition and personal growth. Through regular events and outreach, we seek to create a positive and engaging environment that enhances the collegiate experience and encourages lifelong participation in the sport.

Article I: Name

The official name of the organization shall be "Gustavus Adolphus Pickleball Club"

Article II: Purpose

The purpose of the Gustavus Adolphus Pickleball Club is to promote the sport of pickleball within the Gustavus community. Our aim is to provide students of all skill levels with opportunities to play, learn, and compete in a fun and supportive environment. We also aim to foster social connections and teamwork through regular practice sessions, tournaments, and community outreach events.

Article III: Membership

  1. Eligibility: Membership is open to all Gustavus Adolphus students.
  2. Dues: Membership may require nominal dues to cover equipment costs and tournament entry fees, subject to the approval of club officers and members.
  3. Participation: Members are encouraged to regularly attend open play and tournament events. Open play will entail weekly playing times where club members can drop in and play casual or competitive games with other members. Consistent attendance at these events is not required to retain member status. Members must demonstrate good sportsmanship and respect for other participants at both of these events.
  4. Non-discrimination: The club complies with the discrimination policy outlined in the Gustavus Guide, and thus does not discriminate based on race, gender, religion, ability, or sexual orientation.

Article IV: Officers

  1. Officer Positions:
    • President: Oversees club operations, organizes meetings, and serves as the liaison between the club and the College administration. 
    • Vice President: Assists the President and handles internal club management, including helping with organizing and setting up practices and events.
    • Secretary: Maintains records of meetings, schedules, and communication with club members. The secretary will also manage the social media accounts for the club. 
    • Treasurer: Manages the club's finances, including dues collection and funding requests.
    • Risk Manager: The role of the Risk Manager will fall to the President by default, but a club member can run for this position if the President wishes to relinquish it. 
  2. Elections: Officer positions shall be held by their current member until they are no longer a student at Gustavus Adolphus College, or if they wish to step down from their position. In the case of the latter, an election for the position or positions being vacated shall be held. This election will be held in April, and the result of the election will be put into effect at the beginning of the next school year. Any active member of the club can run for office if a position is open, and all active club members can vote. 

Article V: Meetings

  1. Regular Meetings: Meetings may be called by the President or other officers as necessary.
  2. Quorum: A quorum for voting shall consist of at least 50% of active members.
  3. Decision Making: All decisions on issues discussed shall be made by a majority vote of members present.

Article VI: Finances

  1. Funding: The Gustavus Adolphus Pickleball club will seek funding from Student Senate, as well as through external sponsors, such as the Picklebarn or Gearbox Sports. Funding from the Student Senate will be requested through appropriate funding requests.
  2. Spending: Funds will be spent on club equipment, such as paddles, nets, and balls, as well as funding tournament events. Tournament spending will be on venue costs, equipment, or promotional materials such as flyers.
  3. Managing: Managing of funds will be handled primarily by the treasurer, though all officers of the club will be involved in the process of approving spending. The treasurer will have the capacity to call a finance meeting with all the officers, where the treasurer will propose spending. In this meeting, every officer must sign off on the proposed spending, whereupon the plan will move forward. 

Article VII: Amendments

  1. Any member may propose amendments to the constitution. Amendments must be submitted in writing to the club officers and will voted upon at the next club meeting.
  2. A two-thirds majority of voting members is required to pass an amendment.

Article VIII: Dissolution

In the event of club dissolution, all remaining assets will be transferred to the Gustavus Student Senate.
