Constitution of the Pre-GC Club at Gustavus Adolphus College
Article I: Name
The name of this organization shall be the Pre-GC Club.
Article II: Purpose/Mission
Our mission is to provide Gustavus students interested in genetic counseling with opportunities to learn more about the field. We provide a supportive community of pre-GCs and offer a variety of resources, including Q and A's with genetic counselors, information on admission requirements for graduate programs in genetic counseling, volunteer/advocacy opportunities, and interview and application tips and tricks.
Article III: Membership
Section 1: Membership in this organization is open to all students interested in learning more about genetic counseling.
Section 2: Members are accepted continually throughout the year
Article IV: Officers
Section 1: Officer Qualifications
Any active member who has been a part of the Pre-GC Club for at least one semester is eligible to run for an officer position.
Section 2: Elected Officers
- Co-Presidents:
- Preside over all meetings and events
- Serve as spokespeople for the club
- The primary contact for Gustavus Adolphus College and the club advisor
- The primary planner for conferences and events
- Contact any speakers, other organizations/clubs, etc.
- Help with electing new officers
- Delegate work to all executive board members
- Vice Presidents:
- To assist the President in the organization of club events
- To assist in the development of yearly goals
- To attend Executive Board meetings
- Secretary:
- Add/remove members from Google Groups to keep an accurate list of members
- Take meeting minutes
- Treasurer:
- Keep financial records of all transactions
- Attend all necessary Student Senate meetings
- Place any orders or purchase any items needed for club meetings or events
- Responsible for all club funds and budget proposals to the Student Senate
Section 3: Those interested in officer positions for the next year must meet with the Presidents to discuss position openings and availability.
Section 4: Vice-Presidents are automatically the next year's Presidents unless they decline the position.
Article V: Meetings
Section 1: Meetings will be held at least once a month during the academic year. Availability polls will be conducted to set meeting dates. The President will set the agenda for the meetings with input from all members and Executive Board members. We will have monthly meetings, and members will be notified via email and GroupMe.
Section 2: Decisions are made by voting- brought to the floor by a motion and a second. A
majority shall allow the vote to pass.Article VI: Executive Board
The Executive Board shall be comprised of the President, Vice President,
Secretary, Treasurer, and risk managerArticle VII: Committees
The Executive Board may create Special Committees on an as-needed basis.
Article VIII: Finances:
Funds are primarily given by the Student Senate or Career Development Center.
Article IX: By-Laws
Section 1: Club members may establish and review bylaws each September. Any member in good standing can propose the bylaws. The Executive Board will prepare them for voting and submit them in writing to members prior to the meeting where voting is to take place.
Section 2: All members in good standing are eligible to vote, but must be present at themeeting to do so. A majority vote is needed to allow the by-law to pass.Article X: Amendments
Section 1: All club members in good standing may propose amendments. The proposed amendments will be reviewed by the ExecutiveBoard members and submitted to members in writing at least two weeks before voting is to take place.
Section 2: All members in good standing are eligible to vote, but they must be present at the meeting to do so. A two-thirds (2/3) majority is needed for the amendment to pass.
Section 3: If amendments are passed, they take effect at the end of the meeting, during which
