Statement Of Purpose/ Mission
Our purpose is to provide service opportunities for Gustavus students while connecting with the St. Peter and the Mankato area. Gustavus students are able to apply once each year to join Gustavus Bands Outreach and participate in event planning and service projects. We will work towards enriching students’ lives through service projects in our community while strengthening our community bonds. We will work towards combining our musical interests with service and provide unique opportunities for students that will also benefit and enrich their lives.

Article 1: NAME AND PURPOSE Section 1: Gustavus Bands Outreach Section 2: The mission of Gustavus Bands Outreach is to create volunteer opportunities for students interested in interacting with the St. Peter community.

Article 2: MEMBERSHIP Section 1: All current students of Gustavus are eligible for membership. Gustavus Bands Outreach will not discriminate on the basis of age, color, gender, gender identity, disability status, height, marital status, national origin, political persuasion, race, religion, sexual orientation, veteran status, or weight. Section 2: Any individual may become a member of the Gustavus Bands Outreach board by notifying any of the presiding officers and filling out an application at the beginning of the new semester. All students, whether officially recognized as members, are able to attend our service events. Attendance at weekly discussion and planning meetings is not required but highly encouraged. To remain in good standing, members are required to attend as many meetings as possible, and are encouraged to help lead our large volunteer opportunities which will occur three to four times a semester. Article 2: OFFICERS Section 1: The duties of the officers are as follows: A. President 1. Facilitate leadership of meetings and problem solving issues that come up. 2. Assist in making sure the organization plans a variety of events that cater to students’ different interests. 3. Work with our advisor to create yearly goals for the organization. 4. Coordinate with the board to initiate the scheduling of events each semester. B. Vice President 1. Assist the President and act as liaison between members, potential members, and President. 2. Coordinate participation in on campus events. 3. Organize recruitment and/or publicity. 4. Plan the materials that are needed for volunteer activities. C. Secretary 1. In charge of communication between all members and students. 2. Schedule weekly meeting locations and times. 3. Relay any noteworthy information or announcements to the group and student body through email and social media pages. D. Treasurer/Business Manager 1. Coordinate efforts with Student Senate to establish a budget for volunteering events and activities. 2. Aid President in buying and/or ordering materials for our volunteering events. E. Risk Management 1. Warrants that the group will not present undue risk to participants or to the College. Section 2: Elections for the following semester will be held within the first week of the semester through an application process. Applications will be reviewed by the current board members. The review process will be led by seniority, the eldest member still holding a board position. All students will be eligible for membership in the organization. The board member terms run for one calendar year with general membership by semester.

Article 3: PROCEDURES Section 1: Meetings will be held weekly on campus during the academic year. Meetings will take place primarily in FAM 106 or in the FAM music office. The Secretary is responsible for sending out the weekly email to remind members of the meeting and the goals for that meeting. Section 2: The President or Advisor has the capability of calling special meetings for any matters they feel cannot wait until the next regularly scheduled meeting. Members must be given at least 3 days notice of any special meetings.

Article 4: EXECUTIVE BOARD Section 1: The Executive Board shall consist of the President, Vice President, Treasurer/Business Manager, Secretary, and the Risk Manager Chair. Section 2: The executive board shall meet once a month to discuss the planning of club events. At the board’s first meeting of each semester, they shall set the dates for the meetings of Gustavus Bands Outreach, as well as develop organizational goals. Decisions from this meeting will be passed on to the advisor if he or she is not present. Article 5: COMMITTEES Section 1: Committees may be created on an as needed basis. Article 6: FINANCES Section 1: The finances of the organization shall come primarily out of our Student Senate funding. The Treasurer/Business Manager will collaborate with Student Senate to potentially establish a budget to finance our expenses, the materials needed for our volunteer opportunities. For example, fleece for our Tie Blankets for Charity event. Section 2: Upon dissolution of Gustavus Bands Outreach, any financial assets will be credited to the Gustavus Student Senate. Article 7: AMENDMENTS Section 1: A member in good standing may propose an amendment to the constitution which will be voted on after discussion led by the President. A two- thirds (2/3) majority must be reached in order to approve an amendment. Members must be present in order to vote on an amendment.
