MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of the Gustavus Adolphus College Dance Team is to provide a safe and supportive environment for collegiate dancers. Our dancers are highly motivated individuals that work hard to improve their technique, athleticism, and relationships in the studio and in the classroom. The Gustavus Dance Team is a recognized Club Sport and therefore follows the Club Sport bylaws. 

MEMBERSHIP

Membership shall be granted on a tryout basis. Tryouts will be held in the fall of each academic year, lead by captains and coaches. Dancers will be evaluated based on their technique, execution, and performance of skills including but not limited to pirouettes, leg extensions, leaps, jumps and flexibility. Tryouts for the fall performance team and competition will occur concurrently. 

Captains will be elected by the team after tryouts conclude. Captains will then work as a bridge between the team, the coaches, and the College; fostering communication and leading practices as necessary. Captains should also meet with the club sports director as needed. 

PRACTICES AND PERFORMANCES

Dancers will use time with intention and work towards fulfilling team goals for that practice, respectfully giving and receiving constructive feedback. Dancers are expected to be prepared for practice and communicate all conflicts with coaches and captains. 

Practices and performance dates will be set by coaches and captains at the beginning of each season. Performance opportunities may include but are not limited to: halftimes at football or basketball games, high school or collegiate showcases, nationals send offs, and USA Collegiate Nationals.
