Statement Of Purpose/ Mission
Adoption Recognition Community is a student organization that focuses on exploring adoptee identities, bridging the gap between adoptees and non-adoptees on our campus by increasing the awareness of the adoptee identity.

Article I: 

Section I-1: Presidency

  1. Represent adopted students at Gustavus Adolphus College
  2. Spokespeople for Adoptee Recognition Community (A.R.C) 
  3. Work alongside all the other positions to create new ideas and agenda for meetings 
  4. Preside over all meetings, including Executive Board meetings 
  5. Work with our advisor and other exec board members to create yearly goals for the organization
  6. Oversee the process of all events organized by ARC
  7. Oversee all student organization purchase requests 
  8. Maintain contact with other national organizations and other adoptee communities around the country (talking to other colleges)
  9. Make the final decisions of all events, conversations, debates, etc.
  10. Listen and respond to all feedback from advisor, peers, and members of ARC

Section I-2: Secretary

  1. Record information at all meetings
  2. Distribute meeting minutes of every meeting to the appropriate alias
  3. Create an alias of all members of the organization
  4. Prepare an agenda with the Co-President for all meetings 
  5. Prepare the organization's calendar of events 
  6.  Distribute agendas for each meeting of the organization
  7.  Notifies all members of meetings
  8.  Inform members of organization and campus event
  9.  Keep a record of all activities of the organization
  10.  Reserve locations for meetings and events
  11.  Assist in the development of yearly organizational goals

Section I-3: Treasurer

  1. Handles budgeting and event planning funds. 
  2. Provides summaries of financial records and prepares annual budgets. 
  3. Collects organization dues and maintains historical records
  4. Assists in the development of yearly goals.
  5. Advises members on financial matters

Section I-4: Risk Manager

  1. Make sure the organization is open and respectful to people from all backgrounds.
  2. If any problem or disagreement arises, the risk manager will make sure the situation is handled calmly and professionally. 
  3. Seek approval from the College for any events that require a Special Events checklist
    1. first-time event/one-time event
    2. complex or hazardous activities
    3. large and mixed crowds
    4. Inexperienced organizers and staff
    5. temporary sites
    6. requests for alcohol
    7. unanticipated last-minute decisions 
  4. Ensure liability waivers are signed and fully understood
  5. Establish working relationship with the Risk Management Committee and Student Life

Section I-5: Community Outreach 

  1. Be part of involvement fairs
  2. Make sure the events we put on are advertised on social media and on campus

Article 2: 

Section II-1: Meetings: Meetings will be held weekly or biweekly

Section II-1.1: Cords: Cords will be given to the Executive Board

Section II-2: Events: Hold events once a semester

Section II-2.1: Funds and Fundraising

  • Choose different organizations monthly or per semester to raise money for through events

Article 3:

Section III-1: Description: Mission Statement: Our mission is to bridge the gap between adoptees and non-adoptees. We want to create a safe, open environment to foster honest conversations to explore identities that are our own and of others.

Section III-2: Goals: 

  • To foster a community environment between adoptees and non-adoptees
  • Educate non-adoptees on adoptee experiences
  • Explore our identities further through open dialogue
  • Raise money for different orphanages domestic and internationally

Section III-3: Membership:

  • Constituents have to sign up
  • The Executive Board is expected to attend all meetings
