Director of Residential Life
Jason Langston: Jason joined the Residential Life staff in January 2023 as Assistant Director. He became Director of Residential Life at Gustavus in July 2024. A graduate of Northern Arizona University, Jason earned a Masters degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Education (Educational Leadership and Policy Studies). He has worked as Assistant Director, Associate Director, and Director of Housing and Residence Life at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University - Prescott Campus, and as an Area Coordinator at the University of Wyoming.
The Director oversees all aspects of the residential program at Gustavus including all administrative, programmatic, operations, and supervision of the Residential Life Office.
Jason also oversees the Collegiate Fellow program, ILS Houses, and RHA.
Area Coordinators
Area Coordinators are full-time professional staff members who live on campus and are responsible for oversight and management of specific areas of campus. The Area Coordinators supervise the Collegiate Fellows, assist with facilities management, oversee the conduct process for their areas and are available for conversations, support and to address concerns from students.
Ben Lepak: Ben joined the Residential Life staff in September 2022. Ben worked as a Resident Counselor at IMSA (Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy). Ben serves as the Area Coordinator for Complex (North, Gibbs, and Sorensen Halls), and PVSWIC (International Center, Prairie View, and Southwest Halls.
Kurt Schliep: Kurt joined the Residential Life staff in November 2020. Kurt completed his master's degree program at Minnesota State University in Mankato. Kurt serves as the Area Coordinator for Norelius Hall, and The Views (Arbor View, College View, and Chapel View).
Sara Van Regenmorter : Sara joined the Residential Life staff in January 2024. Sara completed her Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Minnesota State University, Mankato. She serves as the Area Coordinator for Pittman, Sohre, Uhler, and Rundstrom Halls.
Assistant Director
Lisa Octigan: Lisa joined the Residential Life staff in August 2018, after working for Campus Safety for almost ten years. Lisa oversees the Room Selection process and coordinates keys, budget tracking, room assignment tracking, early arrivals and break housing requests, supervises the student receptionists in Residential Life, and serves as general office manager.
Collegiate Fellows
Collegiate Fellows (CFs) are carefully selected upper-class students assigned to a floor or section who are charged with actively creating and sustaining a living environment conducive to the learning, growth, and development of students. CFs have a variety of responsibilities: peer counseling, facilitating activities and programs that encourage the development of a strong, positive, and inclusive community in the hall, acting as general resources and referral agents.
Residential Life Student Receptionists
Student staff members work in the Residential Life Office through the College's student employment program. Their job includes receptionist duties, answering telephones, data entry, filing, and general office duties.
