Valerie Walker
Faculty
Valerie Struthers Walker joined the Education Department in 2010 as an Assistant Professor of Literacy, Language Arts, and Social Studies. She works primarily with preservice teachers pursuing elementary school licensure. Her current research focuses on how characters with disabilities are constructed in adolescent literature and how readers respond to those representations.
Although Valerie is a native Minnesotan, she loves to travel and has had the opportunity to live and teach in Bamako, Mali and Vienna, Austria. Her mother is French, so she has also spent considerable time in France. Valerie enjoys spending time with her family and is the proud aunt to twenty-two nieces and nephews!
