Instructor of the Practice in Education

Lauren brings to Gustavus more than twenty years of experience teaching instrumental and classroom music as well as teacher training, working with students from grades K-12 through the college level.Ms. Studt-Shoemaker teaches Music Methods courses for both music majors and elementary education majors.

Ms. Studt-Shoemaker holds a Masters of Arts in Liberal Studies from Hamline University, St. Paul, MN, where she studied the connections between arts disciplines as they relate to curriculum development.Her Bachelor's of Science degree in Music Education comes from the University of Wisconsin, Platteville.She has studied World Music Drumming from Sowah Mensa (Master drummer from Ghana), Josh Ryan (expert in music of Ghana and Cuba), and Will Schmid (author of World Music Drumming Curriculum).

Lauren served as the board chair for the Prairie Lakes Regional Arts Council from 1995-2003 and 2013.  She has received awards in numerous areas including:MEA (Minnesota Education Association) Foundation Fellowship, Minnesota State Arts Board POP (Professional Opportunity Program) Fellow, Outstanding Leadership in the Arts awarded by the Minnesota State Arts Board, Arts Curriculum Expertise Fellow for leadership in Arts Curriculum Development in Minnesota and PDP (Professional Development Program) Fellowship from the Minnesota State Department of Education and the Alliance for Arts in Education.
