Mike DueberAlumni and Faculty

Instructor of the Practice in Business and Economics

At GAC: I graduated from Gustavus in 1989 with a Mathematics degree. While at GAC I was in the inaugural Curriculum II program (now called 3 Crowns Curriculum), was a member of the first lacrosse team, and played rugby and many intramural sports. I was a member of the Phi Alpha Fraternity and still count Gusties as many of my best friends.

Involvement: I completed serving two terms on the Alumni Board, working on the Students committee, and am also a Class Officer for the class of 1989. I was instrumental in the launching of the Gustavus Alumni Mentoring program that pairs a Gustie grad with a current student to share our wisdom and help with resume's, interview skills, and networking.

Work & Life: I am currently a small business owner and Technical Mangment consultant in the Twin Cities metro area. I'm also very proudly the father of two  kids (ages 17 and 19) that happily take up most of my time.  I coach and play hockey and also loved playing bandy.

Major: Mathematics with a Computer Science Minor. I was also in the inaugural Curriculum II group (now called 3 Crowns Curriculum) for my non-major core classes.

Favorite Gustavus professor: Dick Fuller (Physics and Curriculum II). He had incredible energy, made complex concepts simple, and was ALWAYS available to his students.

As a student, you’d find me: In Lund Center, the game room, library, dorm, Canteen, downtown with Patty near a warm Flame

My college activities: Curriculum II, Phi Alpha fraternity, Lacrosse team, Rugby team, Big Brothers/Big Sisters

Why I joined the Alumni Board: I was looking for more ways to help in addition to my class activities and helping students through the Career Center. Also, without a great deal of financial aid I would never have been a Gustie and I want to help others attend Gustavus.

The future of Gustavus is exciting because of: The students! They are intelligent and driven and I’m excited to see what the future holds for them. I’m hoping we alumni and instructors can help mentor them along their path.  This the the reason I'm so passionate about the Gustavus Alumni Mentoring Program.
