Fall Faculty Writing Retreats at GAC and ASI
The Kendall Center is hosting monthly Writing Retreats this fall semester both at Gustavus and at ASI. November Writing Retreats will be held on Saturday, November 22 at ASI and at Gustavus (Board Room). Faculty can sign up for a full day 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. devoted to writing. We’ll provide breakfast and lunch. Please visit the Kendall Center website for dates and info. Please reserve a space with Cathy Blaukat (cblauka@gustavus.edu) for one or all of the writing retreats.
Faculty Writing Days in November
New this fall, every week, the Kendall Center will host a writing day. Come when you can, leave when you must. 8 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. Coffee and tea provided. Dates in November: Wednesday, November 5, Beck Rm 371, Thursday, November 13, Board Room, Friday, November 21, Chaplain’s Resource Room, Old Main 103, and Monday, November 24, Phi Beta Kappa, Vickner Hall (8 am to 3:45 pm). Teachers Talking
Join us on Thursday, November 6, 2014 for Teachers Talking. The topic will be: "Talking Trigger Warnings" facilitated by Phil Voight. Program at 11:30 am and again at 12:30 pm. Free lunch at Three Crowns buffet, meet in the St Peter Room.
Cultivating Resilient Students: A faculty conversation and (FREE) lunch with Dr. Henry Emmons
The Gustavus Wellbeing Center is proud to welcome Dr. Henry Emmons to campus on November 7th! Dr. Emmons is an integrative psychiatrist, bestselling author of The Chemistry of Joy and The Chemistry of Calm, national thought leader in resilience, and expert on college student health. New Faculty Orientation Session
Join us on Thursday, November 13 for New Faculty Orientation Session. Topic is: What’s a liberal arts curriculum all about? Plus, an overview of the Gustavus curriculum and the Gustavus Writing across the Curriculum program.. Presenters: Steve Mellema and Deborah Goodwin. Free lunch at the Three Crowns Buffet, then meet in the St Peter Room, 12:30 to 1:20 p.m.
Faculty Shop Talk
Dan Moos (Associate Professor, Education) will present a Faculty Shop Talk on Friday, November 14. His talk entitled, "Flipping a classroom: The role of embedded self-regulated learning prompts" will be presented at 4:30 p.m. in the Interpretive Center. Feel free to arrive any time after 4:15 p.m. The abstract for this and future talks may be viewed on the Kendall Center website, under Shop Talks.
Teachers Talking
Join us on Tuesday, November 18, 2014 for Teachers Talking. This session will cover guidelines for RSC and Presidential grants, including deadlines, kinds of projects appropriate for these grants, and advice on crafting a successful application. We will also have a couple of Presidential grant recipients to talk about how they included students in their research. Please come with any questions you may have about these grants. Program at 11:30 am and again at 12:30 pm. Free lunch at Three Crowns buffet, meet in the President's Dining Room (PDR).
