How to Request Storage

Limited storage space is available for students who live more than 350 miles from Gustavus.

To apply for storage space, fill out a storage request form before you attempt to place anything into storage. Complete the form at least two business days in advance of when you’d like to store your items.

Storage in

After you receive permission, bring your approval receipt to the appropriate Collegiate Fellow and place the Housing and Residence Life provided storage labels on your suitcase, trunk, or box prior to placing them into Residential storage. Storage containers must be completely closed with no items sticking out.

The Housing and Residence Life Office does not provide boxes. If you need boxes, please check with Dining Service, the Post Office, or the Book Mark.

You can put items into storage starting on Reading Day between 7:00 – 10:00 p.m., and subsequent evenings from 8:00 – 10:00 p.m. through the evening of Commencement.

The following items may not be stored:

  • Food or any perishable items

  • Furniture, lofts, carpet rolls

  • Appliances (i.e., mini-fridge, microwaves)

  • Bikes, kayaks, or other large sporting gear

We recommend you don’t store items that have sentimental value or are irreplaceable.

Gustavus Adolphus College assumes no liability for items lost or damaged while in storage. Any items abandoned in storage at the end of the storage term — summer or academic year — will be disposed of.

Storage location

You will store your items in the hall you will live in NEXT YEAR. Look for duty signs to contact the CF on duty nightly starting at 8:00 p.m.

If storage capacity is reached for a given area, priority may be given to international students and those with the farthest travel distances.

Due to space constraints, some buildings have alternate storage locations. For these locations, please store as follows:

  • Arbor View, Pittman, and Sohre residents will store in the Pittman Hall storage room

  • College View, Chapel View, and Norelius residents will store in the Norelius Hall storage room

  • Complex (North/Gibbs/Sorenson) residents will store in the North Hall storage room

  • International Center residents will store in the International Center storage room

  • Prairie View and Southwest residents will store in the Southwest Hall storage room

  • Rundstrom and ILS House residents will store in the Rundstrom Hall storage room

  • Uhler residents will store in the Uhler Hall storage room

Storage access

Storage is only accessible during times of year when Collegiate Fellows are on duty in the residence halls from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. Any access outside of this time (summer, early arrival, post-Commencement, etc.) is by appointment only, with notice of at least three business days prior to the desired date for storage room access. Please send requests need to be sent to //housing [at] gustavus.edu (housing[at]gustavus[dot]edu).

These will be accommodated based on available staffing. If these constraints do not work with your arrival/departure plans, do not utilize Residential storage.

Storage out

Items in academic year storage must be removed by the last day of classes in the Spring semester. To retrieve items from storage, you can contact a CF on duty from 8–10 p.m.

If you have belongings to store for the summer, remove those items by the last day of classes and submit a new storage request to re-store them for the summer.

Summer storage must be removed by the second week of Fall classes.

Abandoned Items & Liability

Gustavus Adolphus College assumes no liability for items lost or damaged while in storage.

Unless there is prior approval from the Director of Housing and Residence Life, or their designee, items must be removed at the end of the storage term.

Any items not removed will be considered abandoned property and disposed of.

Any item(s) not labeled or not in compliance with our approved storage policies will be considered abandoned property and disposed of.
