Humanities and Arts Scholarship Award
Starting in 2023-24, the Humanities and Arts Research Award will be awarded to a faculty member for an academic article judged “best” among those published by Gustavus Adolphus College faculty in the current or preceding two calendar years. This award is intended to recognize outstanding peer-reviewed publications that contribute to the scholarly achievement and reputation of the faculty and the College.
Award
An honorarium of $1,000 will be presented at the May Faculty Meeting.
Eligibility
Up to two awards will be funded annually.
- This award is open to any faculty member in department in the Arts and Humanities or any faculty member of an interdisciplinary program who engages in humanistic and artistic research
- Article is peer-reviewed
- Article is published by Gustavus Adolphus College faculty in the current or preceding two calendar years
- Required first authorship by the nominee
Evaluation Criteria
Criteria for evaluation include: 1) importance of subject matter in contributing to the field, and 2) scholarly status and impact of the journal. Preference will be given to individuals who have not received the award in the previous three years. Past winners are listed below.
Nominations
Faculty are invited to submit a peer-reviewed, research-driven publication for consideration, along with a brief description of how the publication meets the two criteria listed above. Self-nominations and re-nominations are welcome. Nominations are due annually by April 15.
