Curriculum Committee
The Curriculum Committee serves as the primary curricular planning body for the faculty, responsible for recommending to the faculty policies and programs that affect the college in general and for reviewing and recommending departmental, interdepartmental, and interdisciplinary programs and policies. The Curriculum Committee also approves new and revised semester and January/Summer Term courses, General Education Area courses, Writing courses, and First Term and Challenge Seminars. The Curriculum Committee welcomes comments about policies it will be recommending to the Faculty, and about courses that are in review. All comments can be emailed to the full committee at: cc-com@gustavus.edu. Course Proposal Deadlines for 2023-2024
The following deadlines apply to new courses and proposals for any new or existing course to receive general education distribution or graduation requirement designations for courses offered in a given term. Challenge Capstone Seminars should use the deadline for the term in which the course will first be offered. There are also deadlines for minor changes to courses.
Fall Term Courses
- Fall 2023 courses: January 12, 2023
- NEW Fall 2023 First Term Seminar Courses: February 23, 2023*
- Minor changes to Fall 2023 courses: February 15, 2023
*NEW FTS courses are courses that were approved prior to Fall 2019 or proposals for new or significantly revised FTS courses.
January Term Courses
- NEW 2024 on-campus courses (for new hires): September 21, 2023**
- 2025 off-campus courses: September 28, 2023
- Minor changes to January 2024 courses: September 15, 2023
**NEW January Term courses are courses that are not currently listed in the Academic Bulletin (Catalog) or are not offered as special topics courses (i.e. 144, 244, 344) as well as any proposals for new general education or graduation requirement designations for courses offered in January. Existing catalog courses and special topics courses offered in January do not need to go through the course approval process.
