Jussi Bjorling Music Scholarship$1,000-$8,000 annually ($4,000-$32,000 over four years)
Jussi Bjorling Music Scholarships support students continuing their participation in music at Gustavus. Students do not need to major or minor within the department to qualify for or maintain the scholarship.
To Apply:
Students may apply for the Jussi Bjorling Music Scholarship after applying for admission and receiving access to their Gustavus Applicant Portal.
Early Action Applicants: December 8, 2023 - deadline for Jussi Bjorling Music Scholarship applications. Please watch your email for further instructions on completing the scholarship process.
Rolling Admission Applicants: February 8, 2024 - deadline for Jussi Bjorling Music Scholarship applications. Rolling Admission applicants will submit their audition recordings virutally.
To Audition:
Submit your virtual audition on your Gustavus Applicant Portal by sharing a link to an UNLISTED YouTube video recording of your performance. Auditions will consist of two contrasting pieces by different composers, totaling not more than ten minutes, that demonstrate expressive and technical skills.
You may apply for the Björling Scholarship in multiple performance areas (i.e., you may submit one application for voice and another application for piano). Separate applications, auditions, and résumés must be submitted for each performance area.
To Maintain:
Renewal of the scholarship requires participation in music lessons and a department approved performing ensemble.
Applicants will receive communication from the Music Department Chair after they have chosen Gustavus.
The Application for Admission opened on August 1, 2023. Please reach out to Scholarship Coordinator Sarah Arriaza sarriaza@gustavus.edu with any questions.
