Statement Of Purpose/ Mission
Study Buddies works to utilize Gustavus students and their talents to complement the quality of education offered in St. Peter. Our volunteers do this by working in direct contact with students of all ages and backgrounds, wherever needed. The program will give educators additional means, through our volunteers, to enable every student to reach their highest potential. We value meaningful partnerships between Gustavus students and St. Peter Schools.

Study Buddies works to utilize Gustavus students and their talents to compliment the quality of education offered in St. Peter. Our volunteers do this by working in direct contact with students of all ages and backgrounds, wherever needed. The program will give educators additional means, through our volunteers, to enable every student to reach their highest potential. We value meaningful partnerships between Gustavus students and St. Peter Schools. Constitution Study Buddies ARTICLE I: NAME The name of this organization shall be Study Buddies. ARTICLE II: PURPOSE Study Buddies works to utilize Gustavus students and their talents to compliment the quality of education offered in St. Peter. Our volunteers do this by working in direct contact with students of all ages and backgrounds, wherever needed. The program will give educators additional means, through our volunteers, to enable every student to reach their highest potential. We value meaningful partnerships between Gustavus students and St. Peter Schools. ARTICLE III: MEMBERSHIP Section 1: Membership in this organization is open to all students who wish to tutor in the St. Peter Community. Section 2: The following categories of membership exist in the Gus Fan Club: Volunteers Section 3: Members are accepted on a semester basis. Membership is contingent on attendance of required events ARTICLE IV: OFFICERS Section 1: The following officer positions shall exist in the Study Buddies: Lead Coordinator, Site Coordinators, Logistics Coordinator. All officers must be full-time students in good standing enrolled at Gustavus Adolphus College. Additionally, they must have participated at least one semester in the program. The only position that has additional requirements that must be met is the Lead Coordinator. They must have been a coordinator of the organization for at least one year before becoming Lead Coordinator. If no qualified parties are interested, this requirement may be waived with the majority agreement of the membership present. Section 2: The duties of each office are described as follows: A. President a. Lead evaluation and assessment, strategic planning, and sustainability to enrich the Study Buddies program. b. Recognize needs in the St. Peter education community and opportunities for program growth with the help of the CSL. c. Serve others by volunteering with the Study Buddies program and providing opportunities for others to engage in meaningful service. d. Engage and create partnerships with volunteers, community partners, and program constituents. e. Create a “community of learners” within the Study Buddies program by designing and facilitating reflection, training, and orientation. f. Communicate regularly with Site Coordinators and Dave Newell, program advisor. g. Provide support for site coordinators and communications coordinator. h. Attend all sessions and make final decisions on hiring of new coordinators B. Site Coordinator a. Serve others by volunteering with the Study Buddies program and providing opportunities for others to engage in meaningful service. b. Engage and create partnerships with volunteers, community partners, and program constituents. c. Meet with community partners early each semester and distribute sign up sheets at their designated site. d. Recruit volunteers to site through introductions at orientation. e. Maintain regular communication with volunteers, community partners, and principals regarding schedules, announcements and to check-in. f. Be a resource for volunteers and community programs with questions and concerns about the program. g. Track volunteer attendance and contact volunteers who are no-shows. h. Show gratitude to volunteers and community partners for their participation. i. Be “point people” to distribute messages from CSL and Lead Coordinator j. Engage volunteers in a mid-semester check-in C. Logistics Coordinator a. Serve others by volunteering with the Study Buddies program and providing opportunities for others to engage in meaningful service. b. Communicate regularly with lead coordinator, site coordinators, and when necessary volunteers and community partners. c. Responsible for program promotion through advertisement and bookings for events. d. Aid lead coordinator in planning of mid-semester check-ins. e. Take and distribute weekly meeting minutes. f. Track program statistics. g. Assist the lead coordinator in the evaluation process. h. Review the results of the evaluation and share them with the coordinator team. Section 3: Candidates for office must submit a written application to show their commitment to the organization. A formal interview with current coordinators will follow. After all candidates have been interviewed, current coordinators will vote. Section 4: The term of office begins upon acceptance of the position. The term of office shall last until graduation. ARTICLE V: MEETINGS Section 1: Meetings will be held a minimum of once a month during the academic year. The Executive Board will meet at the beginning of each semester to set meeting dates. The Logistics is responsible for informing members of meetings. The Lead Coordinator will set the agenda for the meetings with input from all members and Executive Board members. Section 2: Decisions are made by voting- brought to the floor by a motion and a second. A majority shall allow the vote to pass. Section 3: The President or Advisor has the capability of calling special meetings for any matters they feel cannot wait until the next regularly scheduled meeting. ARTICLE VI: FINANCES Section 1: Funds of the organization shall be raised primarily through CSL funding. ARTICLE X: AMENDMENTS Section 1: All members of the Study Buddies program that are in good standing may propose Amendments. The proposed amendments will be reviewed by the officers. Final vote will rest with the officers and the CSL office. Section 2: If amendments are passed they take effect at the end of the meeting during which they are passed.
