- FMEA is established by a selection of Gustavus Music Education students to promote the professional develop of fellow music education students. This objective is to be achieved through the selection and recognition of students in years freshman-senior who are viable members of their school’s musical organization(s) and are interested in becoming music educators. FMEA strives to provide an education supplementary to the current curriculum at Gustavus Adolphus College. This will be achieved through scheduled seminars, forums, practicum opportunities, and community involvement led by local music educators and the executive board.

FUTURE MUSIC EDUCATORS ASSOCIATION CONSTITUTION
ARTICLE I. Name and Purpose
SECTION 1. Name
The name of this organization shall be the Future Music Educators Association (FMEA).
SECTION 2. Purpose
FMEA is established by a selection of Gustavus Music Education students to promote the professional develop of fellow music education students. This objective is to be achieved through selection and recognition of students in years freshman-senior who are viable members of their school’s musical organization(s) and are interested in becoming music educators.
FMEA strives to provide an education supplementary to the current curriculum at Gustavus Adolphus College. This will be achieved through scheduled seminars, forums, practicum opportunities, and community involvement led by local music educators and the executive board.
ARTICLE II. Chapter
SECTION 1. Officers
The student officers (who collectively make up what shall be known as the Executive Board) shall be a president, a vice president, a treasurer, a secretary, and a DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) chair, each of whom shall hold office for one year unless re-elected. The role of secretary shall be reserved for a sophomore member, and the role of president must be assumed by a member who has previously held a position on the executive board for at least one year. All other roles shall be held by members of either sophomore, junior, or senior standing.
SECTION 2. Faculty Advisor(s)
Our chapter must have at least one FMEA member faculty advisor. James Patrick Miller and Brandon Dean will be the faculty advisors for the Future Music Educators Association at Gustavus.
ARTICLE III. Membership
SECTION 1. Eligibility
This objective is to be achieved through the application for membership by students who are viable members of their school’s musical organization(s) and who have the desire to become a music educator.
SECTION 2. Renewed Membership
Each year the members of the FMEA shall be renewed by the process of an annual application during the fall semester.
SECTION 3. Officer Elections
Officer elections shall take place each spring semester, during which time each position on the Executive Board shall be opened to qualifying candidates (according to ARTICLE II, SECTION 1). Members interested in a position on the Executive Board must submit an application including a personal statement which shall be shared with all members. This application must also include specification as to which position(s) the member intends to apply. A formal vote shall be held through a Google Poll utilizing a ranked-choice voting system.
SECTION 4. Executive Board Openings
Should a current board member choose to resign from their position during the academic year, the position shall open for a mid-year vote to anyone that should choose to apply, so long as they meet the necessary qualifications for the role in question (according to ARTICLE II, SECTION 1).
SECTION 5. Board-Elect
The president, vice president, treasurer, secretary, and DEI chair elected during the spring semester voting process shall form what is known as the Board-Elect. The Board-Elect shall work closely with the current Executive Board for the remainder of the academic year, during which time the Executive Board shall be responsible for training the members of the Board-Elect on their future duties given their respective roles.
ARTICLE IV. Fees, Dues, Fiscal Year
SECTION 1. Dues
Dues shall be collected on a voluntary Pay What You Can basis, which may differ for each individual member.
SECTION 2. Fiscal Year
The fiscal year of the organization shall be from September 1 to June 10.
ARTICLE V. Distribution of Assets upon Dissolution
Upon dissolution of FMEA, the assets of the organization shall be deposited into the general Music Education fund.
ARTICLE VI. Amendments
This Constitution may be amended by a two-thirds favorable vote by all FMEA members who choose to participate.
ARTICLE VII. Meetings
SECTION 1. Meeting Frequency
Our chapter shall have at least two board meetings and two general meetings per month on a weekly rotation.
SECTION 2. Special Meetings
Special meetings may be called by the president or faculty advisor(s) member at any time, and shall be so called at the written request of any four members of the chapter. Notice of such meetings shall be given to each chapter member at least one week in advance of the meeting.
