What Makes Gustavus Extraordinary Contest
We are looking for photos and stories to share with prospective students, alumni, and friends of the College that illustrate Extraordinary People, Extraordinary Place.Deadline: Wednesday, May 1
General Contest Guidelines
- Sponsored by the Admission Office and The Integrated Marketing Committee
- Ten (10) $50 Prizes
- Ten (10) $10 Honorable Mentions
- The first one hundred (100) individuals to submit an entry will receive a pocket calculator courtesy of Hickory Tech.
- Drop entries off in person at the Admission Office in the Campus Center.
- Contest is open to all members of the Gustavus community.
- Winners will be notified through telephone or e-mail by Friday, May 3.
Photo Contest Guidelines
- The contest is open to all members of the Gustavus community. There is no limit to the number of entries per person.
- Minimum print size is 3 1/2 x 5 but preferably 4 x 6 or larger. Black and white or color prints are acceptable. Slides are also welcomed.
- Digital images must be a minimum of 300 dpi, and be accompanied by a hard copy printout of the image.
- All prints must be submitted with the following information on the backside or on an attached sheet: name, e-mail address, and telephone number of photographer; date of picture; name of all people (first and last names) appearing in the photo (excluding large group/crowd shots); description of the event or setting; and location.
- Photos and slides submitted are not returnable. The photos may be used in college publications and/or the Web site. All rights to photos are released to the College.
- Entries must not have been previously published.

Story Contest Guidelines
- Drop entries off at the Admission Office in the Campus Center.
- The contest is open to all members of the Gustavus community. No limit to the number of entries per person.
- All stories must be submitted with the following information: the authors full name, e-mail address, and telephone number.
- Maximum Length: 500 Words
- All rights to the stories are released to the College. Stories may appear in college publications or on the Gustavus Web site.
- Entries must not have been previously published.
- Stories may focus on Gustavus events and traditions or community members who are extraordinary in one of the following areas:
- academic excellence and innovation
- civic and community engagement
- unusual or interesting jobs or hobbies,
- ability to overcome major obstacles
- religious or humanitarian commitments
- student development/life
or if they are one of the following:
- artists, writers, or musicians who has been published
- Entrepreneurs
- news makers
