Transfer Credits for Incoming Students

Quick Overview: Transfer Credit Requirements

Baseline requirements for any incoming credits:

• Maximum Credits: You can transfer up to 64 credits into Gustavus.
• Minimum Grade: Courses must have a grade of C- or higher to be eligible.
• Accreditation: Credits must be earned from a regionally accredited college or university.
• CLEP Policy: Please note that Gustavus does not accept CLEP credits.

PSEO (Postsecondary Enrollment Options)
 

• Applicant Type: If you take PSEO classes in high school and enroll at Gustavus immediately following graduation, you are officially considered a first-year student, not a transfer student.
• How it Counts: Eligible credits can count toward your major, general education requirements, or electives.

• Action Required: Request a final, official transcript from the partnering college/university (not just your high school transcript) after your final grades are posted.

   

CIS / CITS (College in the Schools)
 

• Applicant Type: High school seniors and transfer students who took CIS / CITS classes in high school
• How it Counts: Gustavus proudly accepts College in the Schools credits. Eligible courses can count toward your major, general education tracks, or electives.
• Action Required: Please send us the final, official transcript from the issuing college or university once final grades are posted.

Outside & Traditional Transfer Credits
 

• Applicant Type: High school seniors and transfer students
• How it Counts: If you are transferring from another college or university, your courses can apply toward your major, general education, or elective requirements.
• Action Required: You must submit a final, official transcript from each individual institution you have attended.

AP & IB Credits

• Applicant Type: High school seniors and transfer students who took AP and IB classes in high school
• How it Counts: Gustavus rewards rigorous high school coursework through Advanced Placement (AP) or International Baccalaureate (IB) courses. Students who score a 4 or 5 on the AP exams or a 4 or higher on the Higher Level IB exams, will receive credit towards graduation from Gustavus.
