CJ Siewert ’11Alumni and Staff
CJ Siewert, a 2011 Gustavus graduate, is in his eighth year as the Sports Information Director for the 2022-23 academic year after joining the Gustavus administration in August of 2015.
As the Sports Information Director at Gustavus, Siewert is responsible for all content on the athletics website, including the GustieAthletics social media accounts. He and his staff record and distribute official statistics at all home events, and produce the live streams for online viewers. Siewert also handles all media requests and serves as the liaison for coaches and student-athletes. He is a member of College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA) and serves on the Academic All-America committee.
Siewert has served as host for nine NCAA/NCGA postseason events (2022 NCAA Men’s Soccer Regional; 2017, 2018, and 2023 NCAA Men’s Tennis Regional; 2018 NCAA Volleyball Regional; 2018 NCGA Gymnastics Regional; 2018, 2022, and 2023 NCAA Women’s Hockey Regional), four ITA National Team Indoor Championships (2015, 2018, 2020, and 2023) and numerous MIAC championship events. Siewert has successfully nominated 23 CoSIDA Academic All-Americans since hired in 2015, marking the most in the MIAC during that time. He has vastly increased social media following across all platfroms, while viewership of home live streams has increased drastically in the past seven years. Since hired, Siewert has led multiple website redesigns and is currently spearheading a full transition from an institutionally operated athletics website to a SIDEARM website, which will launch in August of 2023.
Siewert was introduced to sports information through an internship his junior year at Gustavus and continued to work in the office as a student employee through graduation. During his time as a student, Siewert was also a website content intern for the Minnesota Vikings from 2010-11. After graduating in the spring of 2011, Siewert remained at the College and worked as the assistant SID for the 2011-12 academic year. From 2012-15, Siewert served as the website coordinator for the Minnesota Baseball Association, the governing body of amateur baseball in the state. In 2012, he served as the graduate assistant SID at Concordia University, St. Paul. Siewert was briefly the editor of the Lafayette Nicollet Ledger in 2013 before moving on to work as a reporter for the Le Sueur News-Herald and St. Peter Herald from 2013-14. From 2014-15, Siewert worked as a photographer and graphic installer for SPX Sports in Mankato. During the summer months, Siewert operates the website for the St. Peter amateur baseball club and has been a member of the team since 2006.
CJ, a St. Peter, Minn. native and 2006 graduate of St. Peter High School, lives in rural Kasota with his wife Kayla (Buggert) ’11 and their sons, Theo and Max. They also have two black labs named Marley and Dolly.
