Assistant Athletics Director in Athletics

Jared Phillips, a 2003 graduate of Gustavus, begins his fourth year as the Assistant Athletic Director at Gustavus Adolphus College. Prior to his appointment as Assistant Athletic Director, Phillips spent three years as the full-time assistant coach with the men's hockey program. In his current role Phillips’ responsibilities include event management for all Gustavus sporting events, NCAA compliance for the department and the management of the Gustavus club sports and intramural programs.

A Bemidji, Minnesota native, Phillips was a two-year letterwinner for the Gustie hockey team as a goaltender from 2001 to 2003. He compiled a career mark of 8-3-0 overall with a 2.60 goals against average and one shutout. After graduating in 2003 with a major in management, Phillips took a position as the assistant boys hockey coach at Owatonna High School, while also working full-time at Federated Insurance as a commercial underwriter. In the fall of 2005, Phillips served as the assistant general manager of the Southern Minnesota Express, a Junior A hockey team based in Owatonna that plays in the North American Hockey League while continuing to work at Federated. His duties with the Express included game day operations, player transaction communications with the NAHL, and scheduling.

Recently, Phillips has worked at U.S. Bank in the Twin Cities while pursuing his master's degree in applied kinesiology with an emphasis in sports management at the University of Minnesota. He completed his master's work in the summer of 2009 and joined the Gustavus staff in September of 2009.

Phillips, his wife Heidi and their son Hudson, reside in St. Peter.
