Steve Carroll is in his 21st season as an assistant coach with the Gusties in the 2022-23 season. His responsibilities include helping recruit student-athletes and developing Gustavus goalies.
Carroll has more than a quarter century of goalie coaching experience and is regarded as one of the top goalie instructors in the Midwest. Steve also serves as goalie coach-in-chief for USA Hockey’s Minnesota District. He also runs his own goalie school and each year coaches hundreds of boys and girls of all skill levels.
An Edina, Minn. native, Carroll was a two-time All-America goalie for Minnesota State University, Mankato. He led the Mavericks to the 1980 NCAA Division II National Championship, where he was named the tournament's MVP.
He was a top-10 finalist for the Hobey Baker Award, presented annually to the best player in men's college hockey. Carroll was named MSU's Male Athlete of the Century and has been inducted into the school's Athletic Hall of Fame.
In 2005, he was inducted into the Edina High School Athletic Hall of Fame.
