Assistant Men's Hockey Coach in Athletics

After serving as a volunteer assistant from 2007-12 and recruiter during the 2022-23 season, Aaron Hoiland rejoins the Gustavus men’s hockey program as an assistant coach. 

Before joining the Gustavus coaching staff in 2007, Hoiland coached at Mounds View High School from 1996-2000 and the University of St. Thomas in 2000-2001 before moving out of state for graduate school. Upon returning to Minnesota in 2003, he coached high school hockey and youth hockey in the St. Peter area for four seasons.  After a family move to St. Paul, he served as an assistant coach at Saint Thomas Academy from 2013-2019 in a variety of roles, as an assistant/forwards coach at Stillwater High School in 2019-2020, and again as an assistant for St. Paul Highland Park from 2020-2022.

A 1996 University of St. Thomas graduate where he majored in English, Hoiland was a member of the Tommie hockey team from 1992-95.  After graduating from St. Thomas, Hoiland earned his Master of Arts degree in English from Stephen F. Austin State University in 2003.

Coach Hoiland lives in St. Paul with his wife Nicole. Their children are Zoe (20), Sebastian (18), and Ani (16).
