Hale KonitshekFaculty
Hello, hola, bonjour, namaskar!
My name is Hale. I use they/them or she/her pronouns.
I graduated from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill with a B.A. in Political Science and English and minored in Women's and Gender Studies. Then I completed my M.A. in Political Science at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, where I am currently working toward my Ph.D in Feminist Studies. My research focuses on state and gender violence during and after the internal armed conflict in Guatemala and how Indigenous women navigate and re-work approaches to representation, justice, and accountability. My writing has been published in Hypatia: A Journal of Feminist Philosophy.
For five years, I volunteered as a Gender Violence Crisis Conselor and Victim's Advocate at SOS Sexual Violence Services of Ramsey County-St. Paul and I share a deep commitment to creating a world free of gender-based violence.
I currently live in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, where I am preparing to defend my dissertation in December. When not writing and researching, I spend my time teaching, playing guitar, and convincing my 20-lb cat that, no, he does not need another treat right now.
