Claude BrewEmeriti
I teach a variety of general education courses—First-Term Seminar, Appreciation of Fiction, Appreciation of Literature—but my regular courses are the Survey of British Literature from 1789 to the present, The British Novel, Studies in Romanticism, and The Victorian Age; for many years I have also taught a course on Hemingway and Faulkner.
Over the years I have published or presented papers on Tennyson, Hawthorne, P. B. Shelley, Emily Bronte, and Hemingway; my most recent project, an article on "North Woods Literature" in The Literature of Nature: An International Sourcebook (co-authored with my colleague, Don Scheese), reflects a life-long interest in nature and the environment. I spend much time in the summer on the north shore of Lake Superior but also love to travel, and spent time during the spring of 2000 touring English gardens and literary sites.
