Tips and Reminders
Sustainability Tip... Did you know that many colleagues and students are engaged on Sustainability Research on our campus? Current Gusties Madison McMurray and Kyle Kleppner conduct research with physics professor Chuck Niederriter to determine ways to maximize the energy production from solar panels. They have employed a tracking system that allows solar panels to track the sun by rotating.
1) A 2-dimensional tracking system was designed, using mini computers, and constructed to hold four 65 Watt photovoltaic panels allowing them to track the sun and maximize power output.
2) 65 Watt solar panels produce 65 Watts only when the sun is shining directly on them, thus a rotating solar panel can maximize this energy production by remaining in the direct sunlight.
It is important to develop ways to maximize the energy production of photovoltaics using geometry, even as work continues on efficiency improvements.
Social Security Information... If you missed the Social Security informational session this week, feel free to review the resources featured on the Gustavus Human Resources website.
