Position Details: Gustavus Adolphus College invites applications for a full-time, one-year position of Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Biology to begin September 1, 2019.

The Department of Biology graduates an average of 60 majors each year and focuses on the preparation of students for post-graduate professional and graduate programs in biology, biochemistry, neuroscience, and environmental and health-related fields. Major/Essential Functions: Gustavus faculty engage in teaching, scholarly research, and service to the college and department. Primary teaching responsibilities will include a non-majors biology course and an introductory general biology course, both with labs, in the fall semester, and in spring semester, a 300-level molecular genetics lecture with lab, and laboratory sections in an introductory organismal biology course. The successful candidate will also have the option to teach during our January Term, an (experiential) course determined by the candidate’s expertise.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • We seek candidates with a PhD, but will consider candidates who have achieved ABD status and who will complete their degree by September 1, 2019;
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching;
  • A commitment to undergraduate teaching in a liberal arts context; and
  • Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and a demonstrated commitment to pedagogical methods that enable students across racial, ethnic, and socio-economic groups to reach their maximum potential.
